Help me! My spider plant is yellowing!
My spider plant named Natasha lives in a closed teramium that I got for Christmas, in the closed teramium are a Persian shield and a nerve plant. The rocks started growing some mold so I cracked the lid, but now her leaves are yellowing and the tips are turning brown! The people that the teramium was bought from said it wouldn't grow mild and to water every 3 months, but now I don't know if I should water sooner? I really need help, please help me save her!? #PlantGraveyard #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #savemyplant #NewGrowth #SpiderPlantBabies #SpiderPlant #PlantAddict #NewPlantMom #PlantCorner #PlantMoms #MotherNature #help #savemyplant #MyLocalPlantShop #PlantShelfie

Welcome to Greg! ððð
These plants are not a typical terrarium choice in my experience. My guess is it is too wet and humid. The mold indicates that possibility. If there is no drainage and the container is not porous that can be a problem. Spiders donât want to stay wet and shouldnât be watered until the top 2 inches of soil are dry. Definitely donât water it now unless you check how wet the soil is before you do.
They also need a good bit of air flow, which obviously doesnât happen in a closed terrarium. Make sure to remove the lid for a time every week or so to freshen the air.
Another issue is light and temperature. A glass topped terrarium keeps heat in and in direct sunlight it can become too warm. Also, the glass increases the intensity of the light. Definitely move it to a bright or moderate indirect light situation. If you canât, move it a foot or so further from the window. Light decreases rapidly every inch away you place your plants. Leave it for a couple of weeks. You can move it nearer or farther depending on how it did.
Personally, I would remove it from the terrarium, check for and remove any rotten roots and brown or yellow leaves, and repot in a porous pot with good drainage. Donât water it for a couple of days afterwards to let it settle. Then, give it a good drink. After that leave it be until the soil is dry as described. I think it would be much happier! âĪïļ

Hi Plant lover ð First I love your terrarium!
Yes you're probably right! I heard that mold is a huge problem. Had one in my own.
Unfortunately once it starts growing it becomes nearly impossible to eradicate ðĒ.
But you can try several things before giving up hope. I didn't know about these when I had my terrarium. But now I have Panda Plants which are prone to mold. So maybe remove all the plants and spray all the leaves tops and bottoms and roots with a mixture of 50/50 water and hydrogen peroxide. Then dump out all of the rocks and soil and throw it all away. Bleach the pot and lid, DRY thoroughly. Replace with new mix and replant your babies.
If you live in an already humid area above 50% then I think cracking the lid is fine. If your humidity drops below 35 then put the lid back down.
Sadly to say, it's a lot of work and continually watching, but it might work if you are a totally in love with your babies âĪïļ.
I'm sorry I wish I could help better and there are so many helpful people that might be able to offer better suggestions.
Praying for you all. And please post back your results, I'd love to watch your journey ðŠī. #happyplants #savemyplant #mold #fungus #fungusamongus #help #helpme #Terrarium
