Ficus Elastica #ficus

Does this brown, hard part where the new leaves would normally sprout mean that it’s dying or won’t produce new leaves? It’s very hard. Its leaves are very large now and weighing down rather than being perky. I’m not really sure what this plant needs, if anything! Any tips or thoughts?
4ft to light, direct
8” pot with drainage

Katelyn, your plant looks good. The brown, reddish part is where a new leaf is going to form. Your plant is happy!😊
@FreshOakmoss21 the new leaves first appear as a hard reddish brown almost woody looking stems. Eventually it will soften and open up but it takes some time. It does look like the tip of your new leaf is drying out so if the plant is in direct sun move it away to a bright spot that is away from any direct sun exposure. That could be why it’s drooping. Ficus like bright indirect sunlight with moderate humidity and consistent watering. I’m not sure how much you water. I have a few different Ficus plants. My largest Ruby is in a 7.5 inch pot and I water her 1.5 to 2 cups every 8 days. The smaller one is in a 5.5 inch pot under a grow light so I water more frequently. That one takes 1/2 cup every 6 -7 days. You may also consider checking the roots to ensure it’s not ready for a repot and the roots still look healthy.
@Shells_Garden okay! I think this is why I felt confused because on the app it says direct light for this plant.
@FreshOakmoss21 definitely no direct sunlight for this species. They are pretty easy going so they don’t need too much attention. Check out this site which may help you. https://www.thespruce.com/ficus-ruby-care-guide-8635808.
