I'm having trouble with my String of Pearls. I've watered...

#StringOfPearls
1ft to light, indirect
Last watered 1 month ago
Can you describe what issues you're having? Off the top of my head, if pearls are in direct contact with the soil it can cause them to rot. But I can give you better advice with some explanation of the problem.
Hi πŸ‘‹ @TotalChamomile SOP’s can be tricky! First if your plant profile is correct you need to put it in a pot with drainage. From the picture the pot looks like a normal nursery pot with drainage holes πŸ•³οΈ so perhaps your card is just labeled wrong. Next it says Sproutacus is in regular soil. I’d say switch to a cactus succulent mix, it drains faster and is more airy. Your distance from the window is great but a north window probably isn’t enough light for SOP. I have mine in southeast facing windows and they love it! You’ll get chunkier pearls that way too πŸ™Œ. It’s good your bottom watering and letting the soil dry out before watering again. Their roots are shallow when they’re little like yours. Water at the bottom of the pot that the plant isn’t utilizing can cause root rot. I have mine in shallow pots and I actually top water but verrrry slowly, allowing the water to soak in before adding more. Once the pot feels heavier and the soil looks darker from water, I quit adding more.
@MariansOasis Thank you that is very helpful! It's still in its nursery pot. I will make those adjustments that you suggested. Thank you so much!
@stephonicle it looks like it's just shriveling up. It was suggested I repot and put in a better window. I'm going to try that. Thank you!
@TotalChamomile the shriveling pearls are likely because they're coming into contact with the soil. When you repot, you might need to remove a few pearls so they're not touching the soil 😊
@stephonicle hi Steph πŸ‘‹ agreed that the pearls may be rotting if shriveled or mushy and soil is too wet πŸ™Œ. But I don’t have problems with pearls touching the soil. Mine creep across the soil and in some cases root themselves in different spots. Hmmmm πŸ’ πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ
@MariansOasis interesting πŸ€” Come to think of it, I actually have more issues with my string of watermelons and string of tears shriveling from sitting on soil than I do with my string of pearls.
@stephonicle okay, good to know!😊. My String of Dolphins 🐬 behaves differently too. It likes a bit more water and not as much sun. It’s funny too how the look more like String of Manta ray than dolphin if they don’t get enough light. Always a balancing act with our plants! 😝 🀣
@MariansOasis LOL, Marian that is a perfect description of what string of dolphins looks like without enough sun! They get all flat and splayed out, like a dolphin run over by a steamroller πŸ˜‚
@stephonicle hahaha 🐬 β™¨οΈπŸ§»
