Newbie plant parent
#GoldenPothos Iβve never really had a great green thumb but Iβm really trying here guys. My gf gave me a snippet of her pothos & told me βitβs so easy just water her once a weekβ. Well Iβve been doing just that (w/ a lil help from Greg) & her roots are going CRAZY! At first what I thought was a good regime, now Iβm second guessing because she has white dots & what looks like possible mold going on?? Any help would be greatly appreciated here, I have no idea what Iβm doing & I just want her to be happy πͺ΄πͺ΄πͺ΄ #NewPlantMom

4β pot without drainage

I donβt have much of a green thumb either.. plants seem to die on my watch.. I have mine in a tall vase full of water and I just change the water once in a while.. Iβve had no issues with it that way it has always thrived. It sits in the middle of my kitchen table. Not sure what the white dots would be. Happy growing!
@Satanswifeeee ok so my question is this..this snippetβ did it have roots in soil or has it always in water? Just asking because (I just learned) that plants will grow certain roots for soil vs water.
@Satanswifeeee do you see roots? It should root in a few days as @lieleaf stated
This plant is definitely ready to be potted in soil, probably a β6β ish pot no more than 8β. And water it 100% to start to help the roots adapt and keep an eye on it each day while using the Greg schedule Once in soil u can shove your finger in the dirt and see if itβs completely dry or not. If it is completely dry then it can be watered again. And just any regular soil should be okay, and a pot with drainage holes. Thatβs it. She should be happy pothos are seriously so easy and adaptable.
You can try adding a little alcohol like some straight vodka or something to the water if you keep it in water that can help kill that stuff. My experience tho that stops working after a little time but it does to start. Or you can literally clean the roots with water and dawn soap and rinse them real good.
Iβm not sure about the white spots but if youβre going to grow pothos in water then the roots always have to be submerged in water unlike in soil when you let it dry out between watering although if it turns out those bumps are roots and the plant continues to be happy then why change a working thing? Iβve had good success with keeping them in water so you could leave it like that (instead of planting in soil) maybe giving it some fertilizer sometimes or some aquarium water if you have some (I keep mine in an aquarium full time so Iβm not sure when youβd add fertilizer, how much or what type) but if you do decide to put it in soil then make sure itβs a well draining indoor plant mix which you could add a handful of perlite to to make it even better for pothos or you could make your own soil mix with this: 60% potting soil, 30% perlite or pumice, 10% coconut coir or orchid bark. Sorry for going off on things sort of unrelated to your question. It may just be the first bumps of new roots which youβll see in a bit, maybe 2-3 weeks and especially likely itβs aerial roots if the plant has had lots of time not submerged in water or soil since those take some nutrients from the air. I wouldnβt worry too much as long as the rest of the plant seems healthy and happy which it looks like it is in the photo. Also dawn dish soap, alcohol or vodka could kill your plant, and you may want to move it to indirect light because direct light may scorch its leaves after a time. Sorry for all the information, you seem to be doing a good job despite the bumps if they are something bad.
@SvelteDevilsivy it has never had roots in soil. Only the water, so does that mean she has water roots??π§
