knife/sharp scissors, just cut the pup off at the base. you can also use fishing line or dental floss, if you loop it around the stem and pull on both ends it'll cut through. sometimes you can just wiggle the pup around until the stem breaks but that has the potential to damage one or both of the plants. coco coir is really good for rooting but you can also just leave it out in the open until it has roots or plant it in soil and let it root in there (don't water until it has roots). if you put it in coir/soil, leave it out for a couple days first so the wound at the base of the stem can heal. just reduces the risk of infections and such
