Probably more likely humidity or a heater vent hitting it
Low humidity *
@TheConservator yes, it’s right next to a heater! But there are heaters next to almost every window in the house 😩
Amazon sells magnetic vent covers. If you can cover that one vent it would help a lot! Or they also sell the plastic covers that just redirect the air so it won’t blow up at the plant. Hopefully that helps!

Hi Julia!
Solution...buy a good humidifier and some grow lights and you can put your plants wherever you want...I have 15 plants and no windows. They live close together under grow lights, with a large humidifier and are (knock on wood) all doing fantastic 😊
You can always close 1 or 2 vents i your house. As long as you have another gent for that room it wont effect your homes temp or efficency at all
Dont recommend closing a vent if its the only one in that room though
Unfortunately I have old school radiators so they can’t be covered or turned off because it affects the whole building. Sounds like I just need to move my plant! πŸ˜‚
I mist my birds of paradise with water once per week. I also have a humidifier in the room.

Wow...those are the best radiators ever. Unfortunately, they're not made anymore. People usually rip them out, but I don't know why.
How about putting pots of water on the tops of your radiators? That will bring some needed humidity into your home.
@CutePolypremum That is an awesome idea!!! Thank you!
Could you possibly move it up? So that the heat from the vent isn’t directly hitting it?
Yes, it is completely normal for a white bird of paradise plant to have split leaves; this is a natural adaptation of the plant where the leaves split to allow wind to pass through without damaging the plant, making it a natural characteristic and not a sign of poor health.
@sexzeyez69 oh wow! I didn’t know that! I am new to all of this ☺️
@EquableErophaca can you put a humidifier between the plant and the heating vent so any air from the vent is at least humid?
I think it’s more likely that u may have a pest so I would examine ur plant very closely, using a magnifying glass if possible. I would dead-head any dying or brown leaves in either case so ur plant doesn’t strive to save them at the expense of the rest & healthy plant. If u indeed find a pest or evidence of one, I would recommend a neem oil treatment and quarantine the offending plant until u r sure its back to picture of health. While u do that, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to check ur other plants as well (esp those in close proximity to the plant ur treating). Once treated, recheck ur plant and if theres still an issue, I would consult a professional or go the route of repotting, rinsing roots w 3:1 ratio of peroxide and water and clean pot w same. If u dont have new soil, rinse the soil w same mixture, rinse well and dry on cookie sheet then use to repot.
