Danger in sight?
Hi community π
I found this white thing in my green prayer π±
I touched it with a stick and it was kinda...sticky. Like, a little ball of spiderweb. Does anybody know what it is? π€
I have a bottle of potassium soap with neem oil, and tobacco extract. I wanted to treat my plant with that once a week, is that okay? Do I have to change the earth too? If so, what kind of earth should I buy?
Hope someone is kind to answer π #GreenPrayerPlant

Hi @HunkyStrapwort That looks like a mealybugs problem. The best thing initially is to use 70% isopropyl alcohol on a cotton bud/Q tip to wipe them off as it kills them in contact. I then spray the whole plant with it, especially in the nooks and crannies where leaves emerge from the stem.
Two days later I spray wash again with 10ml horticultural soap, 10ml neem oil mixed well so that the oil mixes with 500ml of filtered water. I also add 5 drops of peppermint oil as I donβt like the smell of neem, but thatβs me!
I repeat this on days seven and nine, fourteen and sixteen etc until Iβm not seeing them any more.
Iβve just beaten an infestation this way in my own collection.
Good luck with this uninvited guest! π³πͺ¬

Agree in all words with @MothGoblin hope you get ride of it
@MothGoblin Thankchu for the advice!
I didn't know isopropyl alcohol had that effect.
I think I'm gonna start with a dose of neem oil just for tonight, while I search for isopropyl.
Thank you again, have a good day!

Hi, I also have the same problem on a new plant π when you say isolate @MothGoblin, how far do they travel? Can I just put it in a room with no other plants?
Hi Emma @Moonstera π
The females travel by climbing from plant to plant. Nymphs are more agile and travel the same way. Males have wings but I donβt think they have a huge range so a plant free room (if you have one!!) is ideal.
I always make sure that whatever Iβm wearing when I treat plants is going straight in the wash as they can get onto clothes and be transferred that way too.
Donβt panic tho. They may be vile suckers but they are manageable and can be killed off with patience and attention πͺ¬

@HunkyStrapwort Oh Fug, Iβm afraid that made me chortle π
I shouldβve said whatever t-shirt/shirt Iβm wearingβ¦
They can get onto clothes if a plant with them on (so pre-treatment) came into contact with clothing. Just like dirt or dust transfer. Were you to then pick up or sit close to a clean plant, it could feel it had won the Mealybugs New Home Lottery, and move into its very own Plantopia!
All that said, others will probably tell you that Iβm worrying unnecessarily (but they probably think that birds are real and not government spies too π³ππ€£).

Beautiful people in this post, it is my pleasure to tell you that since the 2nd dose of my neem oil mixture mealybugs are almost inexistent πββοΈπ
Today I only saw one sticky lil ball in one leaf πΏ but no other signs of theses uninvited guests.
Still I will continue the treatment as long as @MothGoblin recommended.
Also, gonna keep an eye on it, so if mealybugs come to pop again I think I have to change soil π§
Now I phase (maybe?) a new problem. Does anyone know if I should be worried about this leaf? What is the meaningggg????
Really wishing here plants could talk π₯²
P.D I'll add a pic of my neem oil mixture in case anyone is curious about it (although it's written in Spanish)

@HunkyStrapwort Don you mean the white? If so those are water stains.
If you mean the little yellow dots, theyβre either evidence@of where mealybugs have fed, or theyβre spider mites! The mix youβre using should disrupt their life cycle and deal with these too.

Thank you @MothGoblin
You have been a lot of help TwT
I looked up and luckily they are not spider mites, phew πββοΈ
Em glad the future of this plant is looking good π
