Keep or transplant?
I bought my freesia when it was flowering and kept it potted inside. Now that its flowers have fallen, if I keep it inside with light and fertilizer will it flower again? Or should I transplant it outside at this point? #Freesia
4ft to light, indirect
5โ pot without drainage
Last watered 1 year ago
Freesia is a bulb which will only bloom once. After the flowering is done, then it's necessary to wait for the foliage to turn yellow and then die completely. Usually that means the leaves dry out completely.
Planting the bulb outside in the fall (depending upon where you live) will allow the bulb to bloom again the following spring.
The post-flowering foliage continues to feed the bulb, replenishing the nutrients the bulb used to create the flower you saw this past month. That's why we always leave foliage, until it is completely dead. If you remove the bulb from the pot before this process is complete, you'll kill the bulb.
You'll need to find out when to plant your freesia bulb outside. (Same time as tulips, and daffodils, etc. Spring blooming bulbs.)
