Help Cheesy’s in trouble

#Monstera hi everyone, we’ve had this monstera for a while and she’s grown nicely until about two months ago when the leaves started showing deterioration. I’m not sure why it started. Can anyone suggest a solution?
1ft to light, indirect
6” pot with drainage
Last watered 1 week ago
Hi Dave! I would like to know more about your plant so I can help you! The brown spots that I see in the picture-are they crispy? What β€œtexture” do they feel like?
How long have your had it? It might be due for a repot. It looks like it could be a nutrient deficiency or a watering issue. If the soil is old, you could be watering it the same way, the soil just isn't retaining water like it should.
@theloveofplants yes they feel a bit crispy. Recently repotted a few days ago
@sarahsalith thanks, I repotted it the other day to check the soil and roots. I’m hoping that might help it.
@HoorayPalqui | Dave, sounds like a repot was a good way to go! I agree with @sarahsalith - the soil can get old and not retain nutrients and water like it used to. I am happy to hear you checked the roots! That was going to be another question.

When was the last time you fertilized the plant?

These plants also like to be humid. I spray mine with a bottle mister every few days.

One more thought do you see any sign of pests?
πŸ’‘ Oh, and one more question! Are all the leaves like this, or just a few?
@theloveofplants thanks for the response- it’s really helpful. Fertilized about six weeks ago and some in new potting medium. No sign of pests although we had a fair few sciatic which have now been consumed by some new sundews. No apparent damage on roots.
@theloveofplants looking at the plant now, most leaves have some of this damage. A few have gone yellow and been removed.
@HoorayPalqui | Hm, this is very interesting πŸ€” Another thought/question. Do you wait until the top inch of the soil is dry to water the plant? I am so glad to hear that there was not damage to the roots! And that there are no signs of pests….those little nuggets can be quite annoying!
@theloveofplants I try to with the watering although I have overwatered it once before. Sounds like ima bad plant parent😬
@HoorayPalqui | Oh goodness no - you are not a bad plant parent. We take these situations and learn from them! ☺️ I have overwatered my fair share of plants and have killed a few. It’s a process! If this was happening to my plant and all other things had been covered (no root rot, good humidity, good light, etc) - then I would go the β€œchop and prop” route!
It may be time to start over. I know that may sound intimidating - but it’s totally worth it! Have you ever propagated a plant like this before?
@theloveofplants thanks for the kind words. I have tried to propagate this plant and have a small cutting going at the moment. Is it worth cutting back all the crispy leaves and seeing if the new compost revives it?
@HoorayPalqui | Of course! I want to encourage others to be patient and positive πŸ€— I am glad you are propagating small cuttings! They will be worth it! I would say it is worth cutting all the crispy leaves back and seeing what comes from it! Chopping off those leaves may encourage new growth!
This was my plant when I first got it (first picture). It started to get a little wild and leggy so I just chopped and propagated all of her! Now I have all these little babies! πŸ€— The roots will put out new shoots (last picture) that turn into leaves πŸƒ hopefully if you cut back the old, it will be encouraged to let in the new!
Ohhhh and I am experimenting with putting some of the cuttings on a moss pole. Can you tell I am in my β€œexperimenting era” of being a plant parent?! πŸ˜†
@theloveofplants great idea - many thanks for your time and advice
@sarahsalith many thanks for your thoughts. Much appreciated.
@HoorayPalqui | You are welcome! So glad to help you out! 😊
@HoorayPalqui | Let me know how it goes! I will be eager to hear how Cheesy recovers! 😁
