Dwarf umbrella trees losing leaves
Hey all! I’ve had these two dwarf umbrella trees for a couple of years now, they’ve been healthy and thriving, until the last month, they’ve been dropping leaves like crazy! I thought they might be root bound in the pot together, which they were a little snug but not bad at all. I separated them anyway hoping that would help, but it didn’t. I checked the roots—perfectly white and plump, no rot. As you can see the leaves are staying lovely green and shiny. They’re just falling off 🥲 Both trees are still putting out copious new growth on top. I have not changed anything about their water schedule or light or anything. One day they were happy, now they still seem semi happy but also not. I can’t find any useful info online because everything assumes over or under watering, neither is the case. 🩷🪴 #UmbrellaTree #DwarfUmbrellaTree #HappyPlants #PlantAddict #babevila #helpneeded

@SuperbRaspfern you’re the plant witch goddess, any ideas? 🤗♥️
They lose them from stress. So seasonal changes can cause it if she's exposed fluctuating temps by a window. Near a heat or A/c vent. Inconsistent watering. If I remember right you're in New York, so really it's to be expected with fall up us. Don't stress too much she looks really healthy. And they can drop all of their leaves and still come right back! 🩷
@SuperbRaspfern that’s a relief! I was worried I may have to do a chop and prop. Thank you!! And yes I’m in New York and my apartment doesn’t have one consistent temperature because it seems like the landlord keeps turning the heat on and off when the weather fluctuates! It’s frustrating and we have those old radiators that you turn on with a valve (1920s or 1930s it was built) so I sometimes forget to turn one on at night too. I was going to bring it/them to work anyway so I’ll just go ahead and do that and they can enjoy consistent warm temperatures and lots of nice sunlight. Hopefully they’ll bounce back! Thanks again for easing my mind ♥️♥️♥️
They will definitely bounce back. She just being fussy. These are one of the hardest plants to propagate. You can successfully, I have and had about a dozen that became plants but I gave them all away. But, it takes literally months for them to root. And never use soil they rot because they take so long to root. When she gets bigger and you do decide to propagate take a bunch of cuttings because most won't make it. But the ones that do root grow really fast! 🩷
@SuperbRaspfern can you tell me how to propagate these. I have a HUGE one and there is a nice unruly health green stem I’ve been eying to maybe cut and put in water????? I don’t know how to properly propagate. Any help would be helpful
