When to water lithops?

Hi friends 😊 This collection of cute little #Lithops was gifted to me from a lovely friend and I want to be sure I don’t kill them! I know to bottom water and they are in a very gritty mix as you can see. I’ve read conflicting information on when and how often to water, though! Some say don’t water when it’s splitting, some say soak and dry, some say they should be dormant right now, and not to water, and others say to water if they are starting to shrivel. Help! πŸ™πŸ»πŸ’š #SucculentSquad #Succulents #LithopsArmy #SucculentLove #babevila

@BabeVila sorry did see your reply until now πŸ˜‚.

A dropper would work depends whats available near you. I found i can gey those medicine syringes for children at my chemist easily so use those (also for dosing paints πŸ˜‚)

As they are new to you and the pot you could probably get away with watering them all so they can find water and grow that root. You may find they are a bit dormant above the soil for a while while they root.

Feel free to pull them out check their sides and roots to make sure they are progressing well before they root well.

Here are some videos that might help.

Lithops are very drought resistant. You should start out at two weeks watering. A 4 inch by 4 inch pot (for reference) I’d say would take about a 1/2 cup every two weeks. If they start to shrivel shorten the interval. If they start to brown, they may be being overwatered. Overall very easy though! You’re doing great!
Aaahhh!!! They look like teeny little brains! How sweet are they?! I hope you keep us all posted on these guys; I’d love to see how they grow for you!
Since these are succulents, the best way to know when to water them is to wait for the top portion to start wrinkling. That is how you know they are thirsty. However, if you want to have a schedule for peace of mind, I would say once every 1-2 months. They are drought-tolerant, so they won’t die from dehydration so quicklyβ€”better a dehydrated succulent than a rotting one.
@Kingdoubletap1 thank you! 😊
@Seedstarter agreed! Thank you! 😊
As they are all at different points you may find it better to spot water with a syringe or some way to give water close to the lithops that needs it.
Have these been established in the pot for a while? Or are they newish?
@TheLonelyDaff I was thinking that, tooβ€”maybe with a dropper? They have only been in this pot since I got them maybe 6 weeks ago, before that they were mailed to me bare root by my friend who was moving and needed to rehome them. I read they will eventually establish a taproot so I gave them a deep pot.
@TheLonelyDaff thanks so much!!
