Leaves not opening
So i hear this type of calathea closes its leaves at night, but its been closed for two days. Am I overwatering, is the pot too small or whats the problem? #goeppertia #calathea #goeppertiacrocata #calatheacrew

Water it thoroughly or let it sit in water for about 10 mins! The water will run right thru the pot if the soil isn’t saturated enough.
If you haven’t watered for a while then it’s probably just thirsty my calathea looks the same at the minute as it’s due a water. Give it a big water and the leaves will open back up!

@jcPlantProper should i do this more often or is this like a one time rescue mission
@xou when you water it, try doing it from the bottom like k mentioned. These guys want humidity and light and all that too but when you’re watering you have to do it so alll the soil is wet or it’ll dry out faster. Also, what do the roots look like? Does it need a bigger pot ?

@jcPlantProper it definetly does need one!
@xou can i see the roots? If there’s more roots than soil, it’s not gonna hold moisturelong

@jcPlantProper it would be hard to take a pic right now, but basically: i can see the roots, they arent coming out the holes yet and i can still see mostly dirt through the holes.
@xou when you’re able to, try to take it out of the pot and get a pic. Until then, make sure it’s watered. The pic I took is an example of good roots

@xou oh it looks ok! It could use a bigger pot soon. Just look kinda thirsty. Let it sit for like 10 mins

@jcPlantProper The soil drains so fast. Literraly gave it almost a liter of water, it went right through.

@jcPlantProper it is dark and wet halfway up, should i basically drown it or is that enough
@xou yeah that’s why it’s best to let it soak. And then later you can repot it in a better soil if it’s drying out too fast
Fill a pan with water and then let you plant pot sit in it for about 30 minutes. If it’s not holding the water you might need to add some more perlite or other amendments. The soil they come in from the nursery isn’t always the best. Some other good chunks are coco coir or rice hull or vermiculite.
Also, I think the leaves can stay closed when it’s gotten enough light. Did you recently move it?
