Trying to grow avocado πŸ₯‘
A while ago I tried putting an #Avocado seed in water and had no luck, but now I’m trying the wet paper towel/plastic baggie method. When should I expect #roots to form? Also is it better to grow in water or soil? Thanks for ur #help :)

I have waited up to eight or nine months for an avocado pit to sprout! πŸ€ͺ

I have always found it better to start in water and then move to soil.
@sarahsalith Whaaa?? 😱 Do you mean 8-9 weeks? Okay I’ll try starting it in water
Nope. Months. Months and months and months.

Granted, the growing conditions may not have been ideal, but it took forever for two of them. Some split and rooted within in a few months... but two took FOREVER.
@sarahsalith I’m gonna cry that’s INSANE! 😱😭
@fabiana nah, just put it to the side and get some more plants. (:
@sarahsalith I love it🀣 when in doubt, more plants is the answer!!!
I've tried (as in MULTIPLE times!!!) sprouting an avocado from a seed as well...but have NEVER been successful!!!
@AuntChicken They’re such a pain in the butt!! 😭
It took my roots about 3.5 weeks! I only wet my paper towels once and stuck in a zip lock bag then moved to water. I already have a sprout after 2 weeks!
Mine took about 2 weeks! Did you peel off the outer layer?
They are very slow, expect more than 1 month. Be very patient. Personally I found starting in soil creates less transplant shock, although you cannot see the rooting process in action
@ABCD Yes and then put it in a wet paper towel
I’ve grown some directly in wet soil and it worked really well but Florida weather! 😝 Water can be hit or miss or take a long time too. Right now I’m trying wet paper towel + zip bag and I got some roots… From what I’ve read and experienced, it’s not really the method that’s to blame, it’s the avocado! πŸ€ͺ Some grow fast, some take months… πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ My current one had started splitting and growing a tiny root still in the avocado (but it was an avocado from a friend’s garden). πŸ™‚
