Mold tends to grow in moist environments, so thatβs a clue that tells me your Crassula is most likely suffering from overwatering.
In general, hereβs how to fix mold on the topsoil:
1. Scrap off the mold
2. Spray the topsoil (and plant, while youβre at it) with neem oil
3. Sprinkle cinnamon (naturally antiseptic) on the topsoil
4. Aerate the soil οΏΌby poking a chopstick all the way down to the bottom of the pot in several places (this will help air get to the roots)
However, since overwatering may be involved due to the dropping leaves, hereβs what Iβd recommend for you:
1. Remove the plant from the pot. Throw away the old soil. Rinse off the roots. Trim away any roots that have root rot (brown, mushy, etc.).
2. Sprinkle the roots with cinnamon.
3. In a clean pot (can be the same one, just be sure to clean), fill with *fresh* soil.
4. Be sure to use *cactus/succulent specific soil* as these blends are designed to prevent overwatering thanks to their composition of fast-draining materials.
5. Plant your Crassula in the fresh soil. Be sure that your plant is getting enough light (succulents love the sun and would appreciate being closer to a window). Consider cutting back slightly on watering to allow a brief period of βdroughtβ that will mimic a succulentβs natural environment. Depending on your lighting situation, Iβd probably recommend somewhere around 7-10 days between watering.
Let me know if you have any questions about this! Best of luck, you got this! π΅π
