To pole or not to pole?

I've seen many people mention moss poles with their Monstera. Mine is definitely starting to grow outwards rather than up but I believe that's to access the light and she isn't huge yet or anything.... Should I get a moss pole and is there a particular "type" I should get? Pictures show her currently, apologies at the bad quality and ignore the messy room! #monstera #happyplants #plantsmakepeoplehappy #mosspole #monsteramob #newplantmom

@Diamondgem13 hi Gemma, I stuck the trellis right in my soil and then I just started to gently tie the leaves back to it. Where you tie them is up to you. I tend to tie mine toward the middle of the stalk (see photos). I would just avoid tying the very top part by the leaf so as to not damage your leaves. Check out this great video I found on you tube. He goes through the pros and cons of moss pole vs trellis and he demonstrates how he ties his leaves. https://youtu.be/kwAxVn0a3AQ
Personally, I would stake it now to get it used to climbing. Few more months and that thing will be getting big enough to break itself under its own weight πŸ’š
@Diamondgem13 It really is such a dilemma πŸ™ˆ! I went for securing mine to a bamboo trellis instead of the moss pole. I like that I have more control to tie the leaves back to get them growing in the direction I want them going. I also inserted some stakes for the shorter stalks for support and mine is happy. I would consider a bamboo trellis. Your plant is getting big and probably needs a bigger pot than 6 inch soon. You can probably get away with putting it in an 8 inch pot with a 3 foot trellis at the back to stake the leaves back for support but that’s just my advice.
Thankyou all for your responses! I didn't realise I could actually use bamboo rather than a moss pole, I prefer the least maintenance method as possible! 😜 This is the pot she came in when I bought her home and she has done amazing with her growth so I think I got scared to repot her. I was going to perhaps wait until spring but I do have larger pots I can use which can size her up. So actually if I just use a bamboo trellis/bamboo stakes... This could work! This might be a silly question a d I apologise, I'm completely new to this but .. do I simply just tie the stems to the bamboo? How do I know if the method is "working"? Does it matter which part of them stem I tie? Again apologies if these are silly questions!
I say always pole or otherwise to direction the plant where to go. They have some very cute and unusual metal shapes u can work w and make gorgeous pieces
@BuffCaperspurge disregard last pic thought it was the metal shapes I spoke of; now I can’t find them but they’re in same vicinity as the moss poles in first 2 pics
I just wanted to update y'all! So I repotted into a larger pot, he must definitely needed it! He had roots coming through the pot and everything! I also couldn't find a trellis tall enough but with a small enough base, so I did go for a moss pole in the end, but just to keep the stems together more than anything else πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
