Is she dead or dormant..?

This poor baby pilea. Sheโ€™s had it rough.

If youโ€™ve seen the rather panicked saga, then youโ€™d know that last week I treated her for root rot and all her leaves fell off, making it hard for me to tell how sheโ€™s doing in the recovery stage.

In the past, Iโ€™ve been really unsuccessful in bringing plants back from rot (I usually donโ€™t realise until itโ€™s too late), and so Iโ€™m super nervous about her.

I know I shouldnโ€™t have introduced any more water to her after the rot treatment, but the stalk was starting to shrivel a little bit and so I gave her a tiny spritz of water, only enough to wet the very topmost layer of soil, just to see her through.

So. The real question. Do you think sheโ€™s dead, or is she just dormant?

The tips of the stalk arenโ€™t black like my last money plant that died, but Iโ€™m not sure if that actually means sheโ€™s alive, especially as Iโ€™m not sure if sheโ€™s working on a leaf right now (I wouldnโ€™t expect so given the rot).

What are your thoughts? Will she live?

(Apologies if the pictures are blurry)

I think she's dead I'm terribly sorry ๐Ÿ˜ข. Her stem looks rotted.

These do experience semi- dormancy but it does not look like this they actually keep their leaves but their growth slows down significantly.

I would encourage you to try again. Just treat her differently next time they really need very little water. Since they are semi-succulent they hold water in their leaves to much causes the cells within the leaves to burst, followed by leaf drop.

I use small pots 4 inches for daily big ones and only water when totally dry.
@SuperbRaspfern Iโ€™m just so confused because I thought I was only watering when super super dry but she still got rot :(
Iโ€™ll have to try again I suppose. Thank you for your help along the way!
She may have unfortunately come with it, it's definitely not unheard of. And, it can be too late before we discover that that silent killer has worked it way through the plant.

Or it may have even had one of those fabric or mesh plugs around the roots (they will also kill plants and need to be cut off)

You were likely doing everything right after you got it. I know how it feels and it REALLY sucks!!

The one thing I have learned through the years is to never trust that I got a healthy plant from a shop, EVER. Even though they may still look good on top you never know what is happening under that soil.

To counteract that and have more control and get things in a good environment immediately. I ALWAYS do what other people say not to do. I check those roots and replant in to a soil I choose.

While I know it can shock a plant, I also have never lost one either since making that change. And I can handle any issues immediately.

I would try again just maybe a different seller and next time check the roots right away. I swear it really helps.
@SuperbRaspfern the crazy thing is, this was a pup from my grandfathers plant that is super healthy, so it probably was me! I think my main issue with this one was that I was misting, not realising that theyโ€™re semi-succulent. But yeah youโ€™re definitely right about being sceptical of a plants health when they come from shops. I always try to pick out the healthiest one if I can, but like you I usually repot pretty quickly. Thank you for your help so far!
Oh no, then that's so sad! Hopefully soon he will have another to share. ๐Ÿ˜ข At least for me when I share plants, I kinda expect there to be a few deaths. โ˜ ๏ธ I'm sure he does too, I always tell my family don't feel bad if you kill it there are always more to share!
