Help! I got this lady 6 days ago, potted and watered her....

#FrizzleSizzle
2ft to light, indirect
5” pot with drainage
Last watered 1 week ago
What was her previous location (the place you bought her) like? I suspecting sunburn from too much sunlight too fast
I honesty don’t know. She was a Christmas gift, purchased on Etsy. I can ask the person who gifted her to ask. I just followed Greg’s recommendation for sunlight exposure. Thanks for the response!
Mine did the same soon after getting it home. Google says too much water can cause browning. I watered less and got less browning but also less curling β€” new leaves are much taller and straighter! I’m not sure what it wants to be really happy.
Probably a little transplant stress. What kind of soil did you use? They like to have very well draining soil. I have mine in succulent,/cactus mix. It is also very close to the window; they prefer very bright indirect light so moving it back away from the direct window so it might make it happier. Be aware that overwatering will cause them to wilt dramatically; they can recover, but you have to really back off on the water. Don’t be surprised if as you approach summer all of the leaves/stems fall off they go dormant, and that happened to mine last summer. I hope you enjoy your little frizzle sizzle!
She must be kept outdoors. Unfortunately this type of succulent cannnot survive indoors. They will die. Move her outdoors and she will flourish.

I know they are cute so you want to enjoy them indoors. I made the same mistake. But then realized quickly she needed to be outdoors. She quickly bounced back and so will yours. They can go dormant outdoors so don’t panic if she loses all her leaves.
I’m not familiar with this plant, but just wanted to say I love those curly leaves! 🀩
Ive honestly never heard of these plants until just now, but this article seems to be pretty comprehensive so hopefully it can help!!

Happy growing 🌱
you can definitely grow these indoors, you just need a good grow light and good airflow in your house. i have many types of albucas and they are all doing very well inside right now.
after you repot them, sometimes they will lose their leaves. i’ve have mine drop them all before. but as long as you maintain your watering schedule (usually i water them every two weeks) and keep them in good light, they will come back. good luck! β˜ΊοΈπŸ’š
@SuperbRaspfern my little Owen the Frizzle Sizzle is doing well going into his second winter living as part of Steggie’s indoor garden. This is a SE facing window and I live in Tucson AZ so that may contribute to it doing well as an indoor plant for me. Pics taken today 12/23/2024
I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you but I've never seen this plant before. It's so beautiful!!
@ClassicLavender When I got mine at Home Depot it was in bad shape in a tiny pot + on clearance. I had it outside all summer long and it didn’t start to grow til I re-potted it (I really neglected it while trying to care for my gardening πŸ˜”). It has taken off like crazy and super healthy indoors -I’m in Chicago. Has anyone had this plant identified as a Mistletoe Cactus? I am confused about that.
@BriskCoralbeads That is amazing growth!
You got me looking at those online. There are several different ones. All of em are cool.
@BriskCoralbeads it’s identified correctly on your profile
There are actually alot of cacti and succulents that look like that
@ClassicLavender thank you! It is in succulent/cactus soil. I’ve moved her away from the window. I hope she perks back up!
@captainstardust thank you!
@SuperbRaspfern ok, that is a bummer to hear.
@PiousWaterfern thank you!
I know it really stinks. I felt the exact same way. But @ClassicLavender has luck with hers indoors in Arizona so who knows.

I will say it was worth it moving mine outdoors this happened.
They lose their curl when overwatered or under watered, they also can lose curl from not having enough light. Mine showed all of those signs indoors. I may have exaggerated the die part, I don’t know I only tried to keep mine indoors for a couple months and then REALLY did some good research on them. She actually doubles in size yearly with additional bulbs underneath so I know she is absolutely thriving outdoors as well as she flowers often, so I know she’s happy. So they may stay alive indoors I just don’t believe they will ever truly thrive and I 100% stand by that.

The choice is yours to make you could always try to provide all she needs indoors and then if she starts to struggle more place her outdoors.

I will back up what I said by saying I have many, many truly happy plants. I stopped counting at 300, but this one little dude I just couldn’t provide what it needed indoors. Even with my sunny windows, grow light etc. I just could not reach the optimal growing conditions indoors for a truly healthy plant. For me, I just can’t stand looking at a plant that I know I could provide better for. So, I had to let it go and move it to my outdoor garden where she is now 3 years later thriving! πŸͺ΄
@SuperbRaspfern Your frizzle sizzle recovered beautifully! We are in very different macro and microclimates. Keeping a close eye on your plants and not hesitating to ask advice and try different placements for them is always worthwhile.
@SuperbRaspfern that’s wonderful that they do so well for you outside, and i agree, if you can let them grow outside, that’s the best environment for them, i’m just saying that it’s not impossible for them to do well indoors and to say that they can’t thrive indoors is a bit misleading. every single one of my albucas has grown, and bloomed while indoors. it all depends on your setup. not everyone can have plants out in the winter so for me, in colorado, i have optimal conditions inside.
i’ve been doing this for over 30+ years so i know a little something too. πŸ˜‰
@riverzend I actually was not disagreeing with you, some people like you can be successful with them indoors. As I mentioned in a comment over 7 hours ago. But I still stand by what I said it is unlikely that you will get one to grow to their best potential indoors.

This will be my last response regarding this because I am not here to argue but, I am here to help others be successful to build on their plant journey. You can take my information or leave it, it is up to you. πŸͺ΄

I also know that in the social media world there will always be critics so don’t worry I don’t have hurt feelings. In fact a bit of disagreement can oftentimes be beneficial as you learn more. Just like I did with you , you taught me that they can be grown successfully indoors. Congratulations! ❀️

I will say that you look quite youthful for having so many years experience and you have aged wonderfully. I do need to know your secret on that. Because if I could stop the grey hair and wrinkles I would love too! ❀️

I am actually not being cynical on the last part, I really do want to know your secret.
I feel the need to say absolutely any plant can be grown inside. Ok maybe not a 100 ft oak tree πŸ˜‚ but any veggie , marijuana any cactus any succulent etc. actually a huge business that grows only inside marijuana a 14 hr a day full sun plant.
