@HardyPurplerose old leaves will die off as new ones grow in! This is completely normal as long as it's not the newest leaves that are dying off!
I had new, very tender leaf on my Black Velvet Alocasia . I placed in an east window (southeast Texas sun) and sunburned the big, beautiful new leaf. So, consider too much and too hot sunshine…location consideration.
