The tips on the aloe leaves keep turning yellow, drying u...
Not sure what's going on, the roots look ok as far as I can tell (they're wet in the pic cuz I washed them off). Watered anywhere from 2-4 weeks (most of the time it's closer to 4 weeks), pot has drainage, it's under a Sansi grow light, fertilized with Espoma Organic Cactus fertilizer 1-2-2, soil is a mixture of cactus soil, perlite, sand, and orchid bark. I don't see any bugs crawling...
Should I just go ahead and try to stem prop it? And if so, is it best to soil prop or water prop aloe? What should I do about all of the babies? I accidentally separated them when I checked the roots but the babies are also turning yellow, same as the mother plant.
Any advice appreciated!

Just an observation. I thought sand was going to help my succulents, but it had the opposite effect. It "plugged up" the soil and wouldn't drain well. I used a "beach sand" type to best describe how coarse it was. Don't know how coarse the sand you used was. Another oddity. I struggled with my aloe for nearly a year. Finally learned how to listen to her. The tips of her leaves get soft (sometimes wrinkly) when she needs water. Today we get along. Does that inspire you in any direction?
@plantstate it's supposed to be coarse sand but there's not a lot mixed in there, I don't have much sand so I was trying to stretch it between plants
I've read that pool type sand is bad, that it retains moisture
I do need to learn how to tell by the leaves when they need watering!

Hi Hi ๐ โบ๏ธ I'm a SERIAL killer of aloes tbh lol but I have learned a few things along the way just like Christine @plantstate)! Lmao ๐คฃ
Yellowing tips is a funny one because it can be caused by a few things... Usually my first go to is overwatering but I seriously doubt that in this case! It CAN be the other way, and be UNDERwatering (Christine's tip for knowing when to water is a great one!)... Too much sun can cause it (though my aloes go more of a bronzey/ pinky colour than yellow and I would think with a Sansi light at the correct distance that's not what's happening here) and lastly over fertlizing can cause this kind of thing. Sorry I'm not sure that's very helpful! Lmao ๐คฃ but hopefully you have an idea which of the four sounds most likely? ๐ค๐ค๐
I would always prop succulents in soil tbh, but that's just me! I don't have a tonne of experience with them so it'll leave that advice to someone else ๐ฅฐ
Oh and your soil mix sounds fine! I do use horticultural sand occasionally, but I prefer fine grit these days because it doesn't compact and stifle drainage like sand can. Just a wee thought for you lol ๐คฃ
Hope you get it all figured out! ๐๐ฅฐ Xx

What is fine grit? Is it a type of sand?

Hi Christine @plantstate) these are mine... One is sand (hope you can see the texture?) the other is grit, which is much coarser (like tiny wee stones?) not sure what you call it in the US! sorry lol x
@BorGiKat it kept getting worse so I wound up stem propping it a few days ago. Not sure if it's gonna make it ๐

Having paid more attention to the photos and reading all the comments... I think the plant may be slightly over watered. Everyone hates that assumption because we know we don't do it. But, do we? Me and my aloe struggled for nearly a year. Once I committed to not watering it (that was hard), I noticed the plant "told" me when to water. The tips of the leaves wrinkled and felt a bit soft. I bottom watered to keep moisture away from her leaves. Today, I look for tell tale wrinkling and I always put her in a saucer, filling it with water to quench her thirst. We've been happy ever since ๐

@plantstate ty for the tip. On average, how often do you water yours? I have another aloe that I water once a month but when I repotted it, I saw that it barely had any roots. So for the aloe above (a different aloe), I tried watering it a little more frequently than the other one but I'm guessing that may have been a mistake. I'm still not completely sure about the frequency... The soil is always bone dry for a couple of weeks before I water again
