Why does no one mention this about neem oil??
Seriously guys?! All I see on the interweb is how great neem oil is and how often people use it as a preventative insecticide. But why does no one talk about the ABSOLUTE ATROCITY that is the smell!!!! ๐Ÿ˜ท๐Ÿคข๐Ÿคฎ๐Ÿคฎ๐Ÿคฃ

What do you guys think it smells like? Iโ€™m getting hints of rotting diaper thatโ€™s been left out in the sun and hidden in a hot car to prank a cheating bastard.

Yep bits pretty bad. One reason I donโ€™t use it ๐Ÿ˜‚ in addition to it sometimes burning plants
@jcPlantProper I just found pests for the first time so I picked some up and OH BABY am I glad I did it in the bathroom and not my living room!!!
@Justine if you do use it, use at night so you can run to bed to avoid the smell and keep out of light till all the leaves dry. The smell is horrible. I only use it for stubborn pests.

I use Natria to spray my plants as it's safer to use more often than neem and doesn't stink.
@AwesomePlants thanks, Iโ€™ll keep Natria in mind! I donโ€™t want to waste the neem I already bought so Iโ€™ll mask up and power through it but Iโ€™m definitely getting Natria next if it doesnโ€™t smell ๐Ÿ˜…
@AwesomePlants @Justine I have the Natria spray (green bottle) and itโ€™s still a little smelly imo, but tolerable!
@Justine keep the neem. I always have a bottle in case something totally creeps me out. But have Natria on hand to sporadically and for all new plants.
@ivysaur compared to neem, it's like roses! ๐Ÿคฃ I don't even notice it anymore
@Justine Thank you for this insight because I had no clue about this!! ๐Ÿ™
@AwesomePlants Iโ€™ve never used straight up neem oil but I bet, haha. After reading this Iโ€™ve got a new appreciation for my Natria
Lmaooooo! My kids actually like the smell..weirdos ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ
I also mix mines with dr bronner's tea tree soap and lots of water so that probably dilutes the smell alot cuz it doesn't bother me as much as it used to.
And yes use at dusk or night so the sun doesn't burn leaves. Also use lightly..I killed my purple velvet plant last year by being too heavy handed with it on its furry leaves.
Iโ€™ve never used it. If itโ€™s that bad, I wonโ€™t. Lol. Peroxide and alcohol work great.
@ManyLime hahaha youโ€™re kidding! I think my bf is rethinking the jungle we have going on after getting a whiff of it ๐Ÿ˜‚ he ran out of the bathroom gagging
Yeah this is why I don't use neem ๐Ÿซฃ
๐Ÿ˜‚ annnnnnd that's why I'm all for things like vinegar, water, hydrogen peroxide and isopropyl alcohol!
Am I the only one not bothered by the smell ? ๐Ÿ˜‚.. it is strong I agree, but it smells natural a bit nutty to me.. not bad at all.. mind you Iโ€™m very sensitive to certain smells.. and I do tend to smell everything especially food.. ๐Ÿ˜
@NMazon I think after a while you grow kinda immune.. neem oil has many uses too. I used some to make oil for my daughters hair and in some shampoo.. so it has great use if you can stomach the smell.
@ManyLime never tried it for hair but since the first time I bought it it never bothered me. I may look into itโ€™s uses for hair.. thanks
It is strong but once itโ€™s in the bottle I donโ€™t notice it. At first though it was a bit if a shock!
weird, i just used a ton and donโ€™t notice the smell. it is mixed with castor soap though, so all i smell is castor soap.
Bright side is that itโ€™s not spider mite spray. ๐Ÿคข That stuff smells like coating yourself in Italian dressing and then doing an hour of hot yoga.
Oh I just howled with laughter reading this thread! @Justine your emoji selection just set the perfect tone ๐Ÿ˜†. I love this discussion so much! I think it's because it's all.so.true, and yet I still like it! ๐Ÿ˜†

Hand to God: I had a bottle of neem within reach and as I was reading this, opened it up and took a big long whiff...yup, yup, uniquely stinky...yup, picking up notes of gross...and still not that bad ๐Ÿค”โ˜บ๏ธ

Thank-you for the belly laughs, everyone. It was the best kind of good medicine. ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ™๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒฟ
@corvidfan hahaha youโ€™re nuts for taking a voluntary sniff! Iโ€™m definitely going a bit nose blind to it but Iโ€™m not sure if thatโ€™s a good thing ๐Ÿ˜…
I agree the smell is strong. I worked in Corrections for 10 years and nothing beats that smell. Neem is an earthy, nutty smell. I am probably the wrong person to askโ€ฆ ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ
