What species of cactus is this?
It's got long bright red spiked it's small but wide and the soil is dry all the time
1ft to light, direct
4” pot with drainage

I wonder if it's a colored Golden barrel or a Mexican Fire Barrel.

Whichever it it- it wants to be dry. Follow Greg's watering suggestions when the soil is very dry.
Might need to be repotted , good luck !

@GoodyDewberry don't repot it for now. Just get used to it for a while. Did you just get it?

the soil being dry is a good thing !! cactus soil needs to be dry for longer periods of time than regular houseplants’ soil. imo they look like their spines are dyed? probably not harmful to the plant since it’s just the spines and not on the main stem/body
edit: if it’s a Mexican fire barrel the red is natural!! i’m not very good with IDing barrel cactus lol
