I don’t know the answer to your question, but why shouldn’t someone water their fern in the center? I’ve never heard this and I’m curious and I don’t want to water one wrong if I ever get one
Hmm, keep an eye on it and wait a day or so but if nothing improves water it around the outside to encourage the roots maybe? My mom had a fern once and it grew outside and stretched quite alot but when the winter came it killed it. But if I remember ferns like water also furtilizer could perk it up some maybe
That's what I've been doing, but it's been a couple of weeks now and there's been no change.
Generally watering the centre shouldn't have a detrimental effect on birdnest ferns. In the wild they always get water in their cups.

Has anything else changed since you watered the cup?
Nothing that I'm aware of. It's location is the same, the watering schedule is still the same, the grow light schedule & brightness is the same (duration and lowest light level). I've added 2 new plants but that was several weeks after it stopped growing. I'm still talking to it the same way, too.
Hi Jan!

Unfortunately when a bird's nest fern is in our homes they tend to fair poorly when water gets in the center as it gets trapped and becomes nest rot.

When the water got inside were you able to dry it right away?
