First time pitcher plant owner
This is my first time owning a pitcher plant and I want to do it right! Howโs my set up? What should I know? The pitchers arenโt full of fluid, but I read thatโs normal after being moved around.
I know to use distilled water and to let the moss dry out between waterings (all the way or just some?). My grow light is on 12 hours a day. #PitcherPlant

@BuffCaperspurge Keep moist, but not sitting in water like VFTs, right? Thatโs what I read, at least.
If you havenโt already, fill your pitchers up with distilled water to about 1/3 of the pitcher. Yes itโs common for them to be empty after being purchased but theyโll dry out really quick and start browning!! Check them every so often and make sure to manually fill until it can start producing its own fluid!
And @BuffCaperspurge is somewhat correct. This is NOT a swamp plant this is a JUNGLE plant!!! You donโt want to over water just make sure sure it stays a little moist but humidity is the biggest battle youโll have! They need lots of it especially depending on whether itโs a highland or lowland species. I have 4 species of nepenthes 2 hanging from a curtain rod (because theyโre too big) and 2 in a terrarium setup. If you can manage it the terrarium is a great way to go but also you can place a humidifier or a tray of water near the plant to raise humidity! Also the more plants you have in one spot, the air will be slightly more humid! If you have any other questions let me know! Iโm not an expert but Iโve learned a LOT of things about nepenthes very quick! Itโs just a learning curve ๐ฑ

@gothgardener Your plants are beautiful! Thank you for the tips. A few of mine are starting to brown so I just added some distilled water to them. I live in Utah so the air is pretty dry. I have it in my basement next to a peace Lily thatโs on a pebble tray. So hopefully that helps!
@Bookwormgirl1 Hi Jaidyn! (I love your name!) the pitchers that are dry wonโt ever produce their own liquid. Baby pitchers are born with all the liquid they will ever have. You can add distilled water like is suggested, itโs what I do when I bring one home that has them, but it canโt eat with that pitcher, itโs pretty much useless once the natural juice is poured out of it. You can even clip them off if ya want. I have done that as well. They canโt eat from a pitcher that has water in it because it doesnโt digest whatโs in there and since they canโt produce juice for an opened pitcher, you are just keeping them for looks. If you do clip them, I would wait until spring for the growing season! Clipping them off initiates new pitcher growth! Spring is my favorite time with carnivorous plants! I love it! Good luck and let us know if you need anything! ๐ชด๐บ
