New plant mother ๐ŸŒฑ

Iโ€™ve never been a particularly successful plant owner but I have recently moved into my own apartment and when I was out and about yesterday I saw this tiny plant and I couldnโ€™t leave it behind ๐Ÿฅน Now Iโ€™m on a mission to become the best plant mom - any tips for newbies? What are some easy plants for beginners? Are there any items I absolutely need to be able to care for my growing plant collection? ๐Ÿชด #NewPlantMom #PlantMoms #
2โ€ pot with drainage
Last watered 3 weeks ago
Congrats on plant motherhood! ๐ŸŒฟ it's a fun journey. My tips are; make sure you always have a pot with drainage, hand check soil before watering (even if Greg suggests to water, check the plant to make sure the soil is dry) Pothos like to climb, offer it a trellis or something to climb. They also like snug pots, so don't rush to repot her just yet. They are quite hearty plants I find, but do appreciate good sun. Finally, have fun with your plants, don't stress too much about them ๐Ÿ˜Š best of luck ๐ŸŒฟ
Welcome to Greg! It looks like youโ€™ve set Ledley up for success. I like that placement and love that you added the exact pot size. Thatโ€™ll help tune the watering frequency to its needs.

I think the best plant for beginners is a ZZ plant. Theyโ€™re so resilient! High toughness and low maintenance required. You can even place them further away from a window since they tolerate lower light exposure :)
This is a zz plant
@PlantBeach @martin thank you for the super useful tips!
You're welcome ๐Ÿ˜Š pothos are a great first plant, also ZZ's like Martin said.. Snake plants and Spider Plants are easy as well, and wandering dude's
I've found this app incredibly helpful for the watering reminders alone! As @PlantBeach mentioned, be sure to check the soil before watering even if the Greg app says it's watering time - the reminder can be snoozed if the soil is still damp/wet and will remind you again in about three days. Based on the moisture needs of the plant and your environment the Greg will learn to adapt the watering schedule.

The other huge benefit is the community here on Greg. I've found everyone to be very kind, open to sharing info and joy in seeing each others plant parenthood journeys. ๐Ÿชด๐Ÿ’š
What a beaut! ๐Ÿชด
Ledley is gorgeous! Now that you have Greg, I think that Chinese Evergreen are really well for low light so if you have places that donโ€™t get a whole lotta light that would be a good plant. I always thought philodendron were super easy and theyโ€™re so many different kinds. Thatโ€™s what Ledley is. Yes they do climb. they do trail over their pots, but I have always found them incredibly easy to grow. Like I said you have Greg that is something that we never had in my day. We had to read books on how to take care of plants. Greg is stupendous. Although a lot of people wouldnโ€™t agree with me, I find allocations easy to grow. Maybe itโ€™s the lighting. Maybe itโ€™s my daily discussions with them. I am not sure but thatโ€™s another plant that has tons of different varieties.
What a beauty!
Welcome to the plant addicts community xD

If you ever need help with anything , feel free to write in here
Sorry, I use Siri I mean Alocasia not allocations. Ha! ๏ฟผ
Hey Emily! Welcome to this weird and wonderful Planty Family! The #Greggang are easily the BEST thing about this app for me! ๐Ÿคฉ We have such an amazing, knowledgeable and friendly community so if you EVER have any questions (even if you think they're silly!) or just want to show off your latest plant, or ask advice about growlights or soil mixes or.... ANYTHING! lol just ask ๐Ÿฅฐ

Some great advice and plant suggestions already from these guys! ๐Ÿฅฐ Pothos, Spider Plants, ZZ, Snake plants, Aglaonema (Chinese evergreen), are all great ideas! I've found Philos a little awkward in the past but I was a REAL green (pun totally intended! Lmao ๐Ÿคฃ) newbie so... It was probably just me! Haha ๐Ÿ˜‚ I didn't COMPLETELY kill it... It's starting to sprout be leaves but not sure if class her as "saved" yet! Lmao ๐Ÿซฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

I would add Tradescantia to the list! There's loads of lovely varieties, gorgeous colours, they prop REALLY easily (good to practice with!) and are really hardy little plants (plus they are height to a starter collection because they trail beautifully! ๐Ÿฅฐ). I love them! Lol (if you can't tell! ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜‚)
So you can like water it maybe like twice a day in the morning before you like you go to like school or work and then when you come home before bed
This is my plant her name is Chloe and she really need to take care of
Thanks so much everyone for the positivity and encouragement! Feeling excited to learn more and grow my collection ๐Ÿ˜

It sounds like Chinese Evergreen or ZZ will be a good next move. @JenniB81 love the idea of trying my hand at propagation (maybe when Iโ€™m a little more experienced in a few weeks!)

I inherited a huge monstera from the old tenant at my apartment, Iโ€™ve just added him on so Iโ€™ll see what Greg recommends! ๐Ÿชด
@JenniB81 the wonderful world of wandering Jews! Excellent outside in the summer! They are very easy to grow propagate I agree!
@HoneyBee65 I love them! ๐Ÿฅฐ Sadly, I live in Scotland so mine are all indoor plants lol but they're so pretty and easy to grow ๐Ÿฅฐ xx
@E.vhx I LOVE my Monstys!! ๐Ÿฅฐ They're actually what got me into this planty madness! Lol ๐Ÿ˜‚ any questions going forwards just shout (& remember to drop a few hashtags, it helps interested people find your post! If you start typing #... Greg will suggest what groups are active so you can choose the biggest audience! ๐Ÿฅฐ Xxx
