What kind of Wood Planks for Vining Plants??

I know moss poles are the β€œit thing” right now and I respect that…but I want something a little less messy with a little less maintenance and I’m considering wood planks for my #Philodendron #Pothos #Monstera plants. I have access to scrap wood from my neighbor. He works with different varieties and always has untreated stake sized pieces available. #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict
I’ve seen some done with drift wood that look pretty cool, also seen some done with β€˜normal fence type planks’ but haven’t tried myself
From what I read cedar or pressure treated pine would be best since it will resist rot.
Cedar is what I heard is the best. I will, however, recommend moss poles for philodendrons since it helps them develop bigger leaves. :)
@Gustavo I’m going to try both then for my philos as an experiment. I just recently got all of mine and repotted so I’m going to wait for a bit before doing anything…unless you think I should just go for it? It’s still summer here so I could wait until I’m certain they are not stressed and pot with poles mid fall
@Amateurbotany potting with the poles is better in my opinion. Less stress and less chance of root damage. The reason I recommended the moss poles is that other types of poles definitely provide support, but not the means they need for the roots to identify them as an extension of the pot, hence producing leaves (mostly bigger)
You can try Treleaf's trellises - they're very pretty. They make them of cedar and rubberize the past that anchors in your substrate. I've had great luck in both soil and Pon! https://treleaf.shop/ πŸ’š
