What is wrong with my plant?
I have no idea what’s wrong with my plant. I got it as a cutting sometime last year and I put it in soil once I saw good roots. What can I do to help it?
0ft to light, indirect
4” pot with drainage
Last watered 2 days ago
I would check the roots for root rot. That’s the only thing I can think of of honestly. When I propagate cuttings for anything, I usually start in water for a while and just switch the water every week. I just like having a larger root system before putting it in soil just so that I don’t accidentally overwater anything. With tiny roots, it’s easy to overwater, even when the pot is tiny.
@Boopeboope how would you check for root rot besides smell?
@rachelg12108 Take the cutting out of the soil and give it a gentle but nice rinse for a clear view of the roots. Then, inspect them. They should look bright tan/white. They should also be firm. If they are brownish and mushy, or one or the other, that’s definitely root rot. If they’re completely black and mushy, it’s also root rot. I’ll give you an example because my plant got root rot recently lol. So those dark spots are a mixture of soil that was just stuck BUT I was also deceived because a lot of it wasn’t just soil. It was so clumped on there because the roots were rotted and I couldn’t clean it off. I trimmed them off and now I’m letting it sit in some water mixed with a little bit, and I mean just a tiny bit, of hydrogen peroxide (3%) and it’s doing much better. I was confused too though, so don’t worry. After a few treatments of this, the roots are much nicer and are returning to a normal color. I will say, it’s new to me so I’d do your own research as well just for a full effect. I also never smelled anything off. It’s definitely a possibility, but I think that’s with severe root rot. I’m not sure though.
@Boopeboope thank you!!
@rachelg12108 indeed indeed. Good luck!
