@GoodIcecaps57 Hi Sara it looks to me like you have a pest problem. Iโm not an orchid pro by no means but that white stuff doesnโt look good, I would treat it ASAP and probably repot it as well rinsing off the roots really good during the process. I wish I could be more help! Good Luck!๐ชด๐ผ

All right found one:alcohol acts as a disinfectant to kill bacteria, fungi, and viruses that can harm plants or cause disease. Rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol), at a 70% concentration, is effective for disinfecting gardening tools and work surfaces, as it is readily available and optimally formulated for killing microorganisms. While alcohol can kill plant pests like aphids, applying undiluted or high concentrations of alcohol directly to plants can damage or kill them due to its high acid level and moisture-drawing properties.
How Alcohol Works on Plants and in the Garden
Disinfecting tools: A 70% isopropyl alcohol solution can be sprayed on pruning tools and pots to kill bacteria and fungi, preventing the spread of diseases between plants.
Pest control: A diluted solution of 1 part rubbing alcohol to 7 parts water can be sprayed on affected plants to kill pests like aphids and mealybugs by melting their protective wax and drying their soft bodies.
Plant damage: High concentrations of alcohol can burn leaves and kill beneficial microbes in the soil.
How to use alcohol for plant care
For tools: Clean gardening tools and pots by wiping them with a 70% isopropyl alcohol solution or using a spray bottle to ensure complete coverage.
For pests: To treat pests, mix 1 part rubbing alcohol with 7 parts water and a small amount of dish soap, then spray the affected areas of the plant.
Caution: Avoid drenching the soil with alcohol, as this can harm the plant and disrupt the soil's beneficial microbes.
What to avoid
High concentrations: Do not use undiluted or 99% isopropyl alcohol directly on plants, as it is more likely to damage or kill them.
Alcoholic beverages: Do not use alcoholic drinks on plants, as they contain sugars and other substances that can foster bacterial and fungal growth.
