Macrame & Watering & Succulents 😟
For those of you with hanging succulents in macrame hangers, how the heck do you water your plants?! I have a heart attack getting her in and out of the macrame to water her! 😩😳

She’s a succulent, so I do the soak/dry #ButtChug method. I can’t just pour a little here n there like regular plants. She is doing so much better since I started bottom watering so I want to keep that up.

What wizardry do you guys perform? πŸͺ„ #SucculentSquad #soh #StringOfHearts #sop #StringOfPearls #planthanger #HangingPlants #macramehanger #lovesuccs #help
1ft to light, indirect
5” pot with drainage
Last watered 2 weeks ago
I literally take them out, or I just work it out around the rope πŸ€·πŸ½β€β™€οΈ I try to not put a plant in it that I know would be harder to get out😭 Because I don’t wanna catch a stroke if a leaf was to fall off😭😭😭
Maybe replace the tray with a deeper one so you can add water when you need it. Then any extra water you can remove with a turkey baster. This is what I do with my heavy plants that I don’t like to move.
This is my struggle allll the time too since I learned about bottom watering. (I roared when you called it a #ButtChug πŸ˜‚)
I usually take down the whole hanger and place it on a table. Then very carefully untangle it before bottom watering.
I do macrame specifically for outdoor displays~ so they can get wet!!! I use cotton clothesline.
Maybe that would help; then you could soak and submerge without ruining any nice cotton pieces. πŸ₯°
@HyggeVibes Now you tell me πŸ˜†
Haha carefully!! I take the whole hanger down so I can see the soil and poke around if I need to and then delicately water with a long spout watering can so I can see exactly where the water is going.
Thanks guys! I’m glad I’m not the only one struggling! These are great ideas. I may eventually put her in a hanger that holds from the top only, or make one that is like a shelf hanger, but for now I love the way she looks so I will struggle on. Or turkey baste @AMG Thanks!
I too, whilst late to the party, would add a bigger drip tray under the pot, and make like a shelf out of it, so you can either turkey baste it out (love that idea) or if the drip tray is holding the hanger open wider, it should be easier to untangle friends and lift them out too
I’ve started to make hangers with easier access for this exact reason 🀣🌱
@Nallon I’ve been envisioning something like that.. ☁️
@Hypsie this is the type I’ve started doing so they’re a bit more accessible… πŸ‘€
I’ve got to try this Turkey Baste idea!! Bc I too have struggled with this and have wondered how this could be done without hurting my babies!!
Btw, thank you, ladies, for the new word - #BUTTCHUG!!! πŸ˜†πŸ˜‚
I have less knots so it's easier to take it out while it is small plant. Others i have hanging on simple twine just get to shower with everything πŸ˜„
@Nallon So pretty!
I just hold a towel underneath and water them in the hangers
I am going to try watering plants from the bottom and giving them some miracle grow won't hurt now.
What about a wick system for a few hours?? Put a piece of twine or yarn in the soil with long tweezers and dip it into a bottle of water you can rig nearby.
@Jilliebeanstalk I’m just gonna wrestle with it I think. But I like the way you think!
