#TechTeamTuesday 9/20
πŸ‘‹ Good Afternoon #GregGang!

With the team still hard at work on #GregMagic, today some #TipsandTricks on repotting:

Thursday is the autumnal equinox and days are getting shorter in the Northern Hemisphere. Less sun means less energy for your plants to make food with everyday!

πŸͺ΄ With this in mind, we recommend finishing up any repotting in the next few weeks to make sure your plants will have plenty of energy to reestablish themselves in their new homes before winter!

πŸ€• This is also why we caution against repotting sick plants except as an absolute last resort! Imagine if you had a cold and someone pulled you out of your bed, you’d be grumpy too!

πŸ‘€ Some Posts that caught our eye the past week:

🌭 On 9/25 @kevinkiklee is hosting a #NYCGregGang (and others) meetup with BBQ and plant swapping! I wish I was in town. https://greg.app/post/1sg5q0/hey-new-york-city-gang-i-am-having-a-bbq-plantswap-at-my-place-two-sundays-from-now-on-september

πŸͺ΄ Did you see this amazing plant cabinet that @lazyplantparent made? https://greg.app/post/47zyde/part-4-of-alextriesdiy-the-finale-of-the-diygreenhouse-i-was-so-excited-after-todays-earlier-part-3

πŸ‘‹ A big Greg welcome to @botanicaldan and one of our newest partners, @weareterrace. https://greg.app/post/1UTJZJ/nothing-better-than-getting-to-work-with

πŸ‘©β€πŸ”¬ @jazzyjess found a cool way to repurpose her aerogarden. We can’t wait to see the results of this #ScienceWithGreg! https://greg.app/post/3kdqmj/im-out-of-aerogarden-pods-so-i-decided-to-use-it-as-a-propagationstation-the-pump-will-airrate-the

PLANT COSTUME CONTEST?! πŸ₯³
@lazyplantparent 🫣🀐
@RJG tell me no… time for another diy project?!
Can I fly you in a weekend and have you just make one for me @lazyplantparent
@RJG omw ✈️
I thought seasonal shit doesn’t matter with indoor plants
I agree with @lazyplantparent and I'm honored for the shout out but seriously.....a plant costume contest?! Yaaaaaassssss!

Also update on the Aerogarden #propagationstation the beginning of roots are starting to form so as of right now, it's a success.

Not using the grow light yet though, nervous about leaf burning, maybe I will experiment when roots are prominent 😊
@lazyplantparent I'll check in in 5-ish years when I have time to build one, unless you can extend your cabinet-building to fly up to New England next?
@Annasea seasonal differences come into play through the increases and decreases in light intensity and duration. So basically Drew was saying that in the winter season, both the duration of light hours during the day and intensity of that light decrease. Also, many indoor plants enter into a dormancy or go on pause during the winter season β€” plants kind of have internal clocks like we do in that sense! So the seasons definitely still affect our indoor plant friends too.
@PlantMompy lmao I’ll slap a packing label on it and mail ya one πŸ˜‚
@Annasea while indoor changes aren't as harsh as outdoor ones, there are still a ton of seasonal changes! The sun shines for less hours, it rises and sets in different places so windows that used to get 1-3 hours of sun might only get 0-1. A lot of homes get drafts, especially in windows where we usually keep our plants, and almost all heating systems create dryer air in the home meaning our plants may need extra humidity.
@Annasea inside plants can still be affected by light and temperature. When it's cold or hot outside and I have my heater or AC on, my plants will dry out faster. οΏΌοΏΌ

Also, some of my favorite plants are in cabinets to control the humidity. 😁
Hey thank you so much for the shoutout!πŸ’š
@botanicaldan your post out did #FreshLeafFriday last week. It's the least I can do! πŸ˜‚
Hey @RJG, can I use today’s little leafy friend to make a best answer reminder digital sticker (on canva) we could all use? He’s so cute! I think he should be included in the design!
@lazyplantparent you have my attention. say more words
Yes! Just about to do some final repotting!
@kevinkiklee that looks awesome! Have fun!
@lazyplantparent saving those great tips! πŸ‘
@jazzyjess I've been wanting to add aeration to my water props!
@RJG haha nothing fancy, was thinking a little visual reminder would be less obnoxious than commenting β€œhey, choose a best answer!” β€” so I was going to take the leafy dude from your post (with permission) and either use it as a background, or cut out the leafy dude to be used as a vector icon. That way if we see a question that hasn’t yet been marked as answered, we could drop just a friendly reminder pic of the leafy dude with a little slogan or something about picking your favorite response?
@RJG kinda like how those fb ladies drop those reminder stickers on fb plant purges πŸ˜‚ that’s the inspo lmao πŸ’€
OMG IVE LITERALLY BEEN WAITING FOR A PLANT COSTUME THING I ALREADY HAVE MINI HATS FAVORITED ON AMAZON AH OMG PLEASE DO THIS! 😍😍😍
@lazyplantparent I can email you a .png or a vector of it.
@RJG png works! Link in my bio has my email!!

@RJG dude you’re awesome thank you, got it!

I’ve been meaning to ask… does our little friend have an official name? Or is he just our friendly nameless neighborhood mascot for now?
@Natural good luck with your repotting! Don’t forget to post pics of your roots for that #RootPorn if ya want!

Welcome to the Greg fam! So glad you’re here! πŸŒΏπŸ’š I might be a bit biased, but this is definitely the best place on the internet. You’re going to love it here!
@lazyplantparent our friend is Greg.
@RJG ah his royal namesake in the leafy flesh!! 🀯 Sometimes the answer is right in front of your face… πŸ™ƒ
@Natural definitely check out #NYCGregGang I know they're starting to do meetups (see link above) @PlantNerds @ManyLime @MrsSmith @kevinkiklee @LatiTish84 a new plant friend!

Did someone say costumes?! @Sassylimey it's going to lit af Baesil and the pricks are ready for their debut and there might be some new stars in the making?!?!?!
I LIVE FOR THIS 😬
Great info @RJG gotta pot up one pothos roots are coming out the bottom also 😩 and some propagate pothos started by this weekend I’ll get it done βœ”οΈ
@Indoorgreens ahhh I was hoping you would see this post I couldn't remember your new @ I found you a new New Jersey friend! @Natural !
@RJG atleast I’m thought of 😊☺️ yes I’ll add a follow to my jersey gal
@RJG new jersey in the (green) house!
@lazyplantparent That is rather interesting, because I was wondering about the grow lights? Do I need to adjust the time that I normally keep them on as well? Say from 12 to 8 hours? Or do plants need grow lights during dormancy?
@Ms.Persnickety I have not heard that plants need less light in order to acclimate to seasonal changes, as stability and routine usually seem to be preferred. I think whatever your usual schedule for the grow light is should work fine!
@RJG wait is this plant contest to dress up our own plants or the cute little leaf?
@PlantyPlanter I was thinking the former
@RJG the what?
@RJG do you mean β€œfirst one?”
@PlantyPlanter that's what the former means yes!
@PlantyPlanter for your info
@RJG ohhh ok! Now I’m gonna have to use that in my vocabulary πŸ˜‰ I was gonna Google it but I didn’t know if it was a typo
@PlantyPlanter all good! Doing a dress up Greg could be a fun contest too
@RJG ok ya I like that idea! This will finally push me to actually buy those props I was gonna by for my plants LOL do you have an idea for what the name is gonna be? Like #ScareIntoFall or something?
@PlantyPlanter Nope we don't have a name yet. It'll have a tag though for sure. Keep thinking of more!
Ooh @lazyplantparent I hadn’t seen your cabinet, it’s amazing! Love that you shared all the sources too. Sounds like you’ve got a budding business opportunity creating these for all of us Greggers!!
@RJG @lazyplantparent did an amazing job creating these stickers to use.
@KikiGoldblatt thank you Kristy! ☺️
