Cordyline Australis

I was recently gifted this huuuuge Cordyline Australis in a large pot, that is currently on my deck outside. I know she'll be ok until temps drop. BUT..
SHE'S way too big for my house. I'm in zone 6a how can I protect this plant during winter? #happyplants #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantaddict #cordyline #plantmafia #sarahsgrove #thethread

@Sassylimey I use clear tarps to let light in on my outdoor plants. Making a makeshift green house. Do you have a covered porch or patio you can put it under?
Thank you Heidi. 🤗
No I don't have a covered porch or patio. So, I'm going to look at clear tarps and see what I can do to make a makeshift green house!🤷 @princesspitstop
@Sassylimey I wish you the best. It's a gorgeous plant!
I would put it on a plant caddy and roll it into your garage.
Wish I could @KookyLlavea37, unfortunately I don't have a garage!
I dont know that plants exact hardiness. But if its cold hardy at all then usually you can dig a hole and sink the pot in it so it stays ground temps not air temps. Ifvthats not an option then its gotta go in. Or you can build a cold frame for potted plants also.
Cold frames can be very eady to build and very cheap. 2- 2x4x8 ft and a sheet of plastic
You use your house for the back wall the the 2x4 go at an angle from the wall to@the ground making a half pyramid. Then nail tape or staple the plastic over it
@TheConservator thank you so very much for your suggestion of the cold frame. That's kind of what I was thinking, because I literally have no room inside. She's not cold hardy for my zone, so your help is greatly appreciated 😊
@Sassylimey its such a tall plant that it still may need to sink the pot in the ground even with a cold frame. The best cold frames have more dirt/grass floor sq ft than they do wall sq ft . That maintains the temperature. If its to tall and not enough floor area it wont stay warm in cloudy weather or at night
I have my cold frame at home but its big. 8 ft x 8 ft floor and 4 ft max height on back wall. It stays really warm.
Ill share a puc when im home
Sonny you're so kind, and helpful. it's such a lovely, but huge plant but I'm so limited on space, indoor and outdoors. I could possibly fashion a cold frame on my deck and insulate the floor area? @TheConservator
@Sassylimey no that wont work. It has to have the actual ground to help keep it warm at night
Im sorry. Ill try to keep brainstorming ideas but i dont have any others off the top of my head.
