New plant questions!

Hi all, I recently recieved this beautiful English ivy as a birthday present and I have a few questions! They came with these supports presumably for transport, is it okay if I remove them and let her grow freely? Also some of the leaves are a bit damaged (theres a few dead/yellowing ones, some have been stapled? Girl idk), should I prune them now, or wait until the beginning of spring? I live in the southern hemisphere so it's still winter for me. Thank you!

I second what @oldplantlady said. Go ahead and trim off any dead or dying (or...stapled?! ðŸĪ”) leaves with scissors or pruners sterilized with rubbing alcohol. Depending on how far gone they are, they might fall off when you touch them. And yes, I'd hold off on pruning until the start of (your) spring. When you do prune, remove no more than 1/3 of the plant at a time 😊
