Hi #GregGang πŸ™‚Happy Saturday! β˜€ Sunlight Q's for #stringo...

I'm noticing I have a ton of New Growth but it's thinner than the nursery growth & more marbled.

There are smaller leaves of the old growth that are still small (but chonky) and new growth that is triple their size 😯 but not chunky. πŸ€·πŸ½β€β™€οΈ

So, I deep dove into this article last night that is very informative...
https://www.succulentgrowingtips.com/ceropegia-woodii-string-of-hearts-problems-how-to-fix-them

BUT the only thing it DOSENT cover is how long the growth will typically take to get thick and juicy! Lol

"Natural curl on young String of Hearts leaves. These will eventually straighten up as they grow older.

The natural curl can happen when the leaves are young. New growth is thinner than more mature leaves, and so they are prone to bending. They should eventually straighten up as they grow older and thicker.

Having the plant in as much light as possible will help greatly. Young leaves in a dark spot can be a double whammy and the leaf curl can become more pronounced."

I definitely want to acclimate it to a good amount of dappled Morning Sun - filtered through the window and some palm tree branches. I know i will grow much better when it gets that natural hit of sunlight and my apartment will get really bright in a couple months so I have to get to accustomed.

I've worked up to doing about an hour of dappled shade /sun and then I finish off with about 9-10 hours of a grow light where it's 12 inches away - once it his spring time I will nix the grow light as my place will be very bright.

Should I be giving it less grow light after it's morning Sun sprinkles?

I could move it after Morning Sun to one of my Southern window that's not getting direct sun right now and skip the growlight?

Thoughts? @sarahsalith @Sassylimey @HoyaAddict @dreamlettuce @jaysjungle

Or quite possibly I'm just overthinking this one yet again and I should just let it do it thing and wait to see what happens after it lol πŸ˜‚

Thanks in advance!

Mine have been in several spots around the house and have always grown well in any window EXCEPT for autumn/winter when leaves can still grow but come out smaller. If you want them to stay large all year around I definitely think the grow light is a good idea! The new leaves and stems are always very tiny and fragile and it can take a while for the leaves to fully mature so they still may surprise you with more growth. They grow very fast in spring/summer so it won’t take too long to bush out. Mine was just a few tiny cuttings last year but now are nearly as long as me πŸ˜… These are my FAVOURITE of all the strings, definitely the easiest to grow. I have watered from top and bottom and it doesn’t care. I’ve given less light and it still keeps kicking. I’m in love with this little plant! The mature leaves will be firm to squeeze but when thirsty will be bendy and pliable, so he even tells you when he’s thirsty! Enjoy this little cutie πŸ₯° he’s perfect
@roxyvivien omg send some of that β˜€οΈmy way…
Make sure your getting plenty of light into the top of the pot. And when the stems are long enough just curl them back on top of the soil.
Pic 1) winter to spring haha πŸ˜‚ love it pic 2/3 show how much growth I have had in 14months these were unrooted 2” cuttings! 🀩
Wow! Lovely strings! @HoyaAddict

Your pots remind me of Rapunzel's castle! ☺️

Thank you for your experienced advice, I will be sure to continue giving them plenty of light with my supplement grow light and I'll *not so patiently* await for them to get chonk and juicy in spring. πŸ˜‚

I'm definitely going to have to propagate clippings because if they get longer than 12 inches my cats will be interested...

Especially this crazy Calico who's pretending she's not interested in the strings...

I caught her mid-yawning, pretending she wasn't just staring directly at them! πŸ˜†

She's too funny!
@FirstCanna I do love my BIG windows!

So do my cats lol

You would think that I'd be able to grow succulents year round without any supplemental light but you be surprised how much they need even in Southern California light like this.

The only succs that grow well solely in the light of my apartment are Nanouk (so far) Haworthia, *some* Aloe & Crassula, & most stem clippings/ leaf props... everything else stays outside or gets supplemental grow lights 🫀
Thank you @Sassylimey - I got the tip early on from @jaysjungle about making sure light was overhead on the top of the SOH - Great tip! β™₯

My SOH hangs out here most of the time... w/the cats watching humming brids feed and doggies walk by πŸ˜‚

P. S. Yes, that is two different cats in the photos they swapped real quick while I was taking a picture! πŸ˜‚
LOL @roxyvivien that's where I got the tip, Jay told me to make sure to have light on top of the plant 🀣

My string of hearts sits in a very sunny southern facing window and gets direct light almost all day and is doing great. It started off as a propagation and took off
@roxyvivien Haha I have to do the same! My kitties are interested in ANYTHING dangly 😁 At least we get fuller pots when we’re β€˜forced’ to trim them back! It looks so cute in your windows 🀩
