I think my green prayer plant has root rot. She’s startin...

0ft to light, direct
3” pot without drainage
Last watered 3 days ago
The pot doesnt look to big so you can prob reuse it. Take her out of pot. Lace your fingers around her stems. Tip her upside down and she should walk out. Give a gentle tug if necessary. Shake the dirt off roots. Look for mushy roots and trim any, using a sterile scissor. Wash pot. Rinse well. Dry pot. Use regular potting soil. Put a couple of inches out so in bottom of pot. Place plant in pot, so that she at the same height, relative to pot, that she was before. Put soil around her. Gently water. If you can’t save her, but there is a healthy stem, cut it just above a node and place her in water reboot her. Pot her.
Thank you! I will try that.
Also, it looks like you have her in a black pot inside a green pot. Yes? I assume the black pot has drainage holes. Make sure you remove the black pot from the green pot when you water and let the water drain out of it when you water her.
I’ve had mine for a few years. She was super fussy, but once I got her conditions right she’s thrived. Mine likes a lot of sun (southeast window) and I have mostly bottom watered, with an occasional top watering. Good luckβ€”let us know she she is!
@LoriB yes that’s the way she came from the store. So when I water, don’t leave her in the green pot? Like put it in the sink for an hour or so while the water drains and then put it back?
@LoriB yea she’s in front of a south facing glass slider, about 0.5 foot from the glass. How do u bottom water? Like a self watering pot? That would work best?
@Plantmomma79 I do not use self watering pots. I mostly bottom water mine most of the time. It helps prevent over watering. When you need to water, take it out of the green pot. I assume the black one has drainage holes. Put several inches of water in a sink or a bowl. Put her in it. If the pot’s 3” I would think maybe waiting 10 minutes would be enough, while she sucks up water. (Watching it happen is amazing!) Take her out. Let her drain. I would wait a couple of hours before putting it back in the green pot. She’s really pretty!
@LoriB yes the internal pot has drainage holes. Thank you so much for all ur advice!
Thanks guy: I have similar issues to original poster. Thank you
