Can I propagate?
Is there a way of propagating a flase christmas cactus? Do I cut a few leaves off and place them into water or is that a bad idea? #falsechristmascactus #propagation
2ft to light, direct
3” pot with drainage

I’ve taken good-sized cuttings and thrown em in water to root, and I’ve taken small cuttings and popped em right into a pot and been successful with both. I think water propping has given me the best roots though!
Thanks! :D
Absolutely!! You can also keep an eye out for roots that have already started to grow from leaf segments. I have had great success with leca balls in a cup with rainwater.οΏΌοΏΌοΏΌ After a few weeks I usually seem to have enough roots to put into soil. I have also had leaves that have fallen onto the soil and sprouted roots on their own.οΏΌοΏΌ.
I agree with Katy, in my experience I’ve had better luck placing the cuttings in water. Good luck!
@sarahsalith That looks soooo cool 😯
@elliottsgarden Thanks! I'm really excited for this one!
Great thread! My False Christmas Cactus didn't bloom and I just bought it in Dec. A few days ago I noticed itty bitty little buds forming. I'm very excited to see it bloom. I also want to propagate it.
@TinaRedchic Yours is looking great too! It's a really nice shade of green.
@PBRobinno thank you!
@sarahsalith oh look at the buds on yours! Your FCC looks very happy 😁
I’ve gotten many broken off pieces (accident) to root in water. I usually do mine in warmer weather though??
@user5109 Most of my plants are placed pretty close to the heater in winter. I hope that makes up for the lack of warmth from outside. And I'm also too impatient to wait for warmer weather πŸ˜‚
