What is the meaning of this?!
When I got this plant it looked like this now its leaves are bending down⦠same thing happening with my agave. Does anyone know why?? #Agave #Succulents #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #planthelp #SucculentSquad

0ft to light, indirect

Last watered 2 weeks ago
@OrangeGrass okay thank you I do have it under a grow light will this help? Or does it really just want more natural sunlight?
@PiousGermanivy if itβs a good quality grow light, it will be happy! π
@PiousGermanivy I have noticed they will bed their leaves to lift themselves out of the pot if their soil stays moist too long. Check the soils too.
@TheOddAsity okay thank you!
@SuperbRaspfern do you have any thoughts on this? They are under a grow light for 8 hrs a day but I noticed a few getting what appear to be damage from the light so I just moved it down to 6 hrs a day..
Is there a way to adjust the grow light to 12 hours a day. Succulent tend to like a lot of light. The more the better. The ones I've had under the grow light for 16 hours a day look fantastic.
I would also move it from a plastic pot to terracotta so that it will pull moisture away from the roots. I do agree with @TheOddAsity that they will do that if they are staying wet too long.
I started using a new soil for mine that is more expensive but much more rocky it 'Bonsai Jacks succulent and Bonsai Soil". It's expensive but so far so good. I've been watering every 3 weeks through winter. For an idea of how mine are treated.
The grow light itself won't damage your succulents unless it is actually touching them. Grow light is not nearly as intense a the sun.
Aloe which I would like to move out of the plastic pot but don't want to move because it is a giant only get watered about every 5 weeks. Plastic tends to be the enemy of succulents.

@SuperbRaspfern okay thank you for all the suggestions I will repot the agave again Iβm curious to see the roots last time a repotted a few months ago to move it in for winter there was not very many roots if any. I am wondering about the other tho because i believe it is not overwatered I will also post a picture of the cactus I thought was getting damaged from the light maybe you know what it is when i get home :)
@SuperbRaspfern okay, I did apply rooting hormone is there anything else I could be doing to stimulate root growth assuming thatβs the issue?
You can try adding some fertilizer high in P
NPK are the numbers on fertilizer. I say high in P which is phosphorous. That is the nutrient that stimulates root growth.
Something with the middle number being the highest
For example 5-10-5
I hate when I get one with little to no roots!
The rooting hormone with also help.

@SuperbRaspfern great idea I will need to get a different fertilizer for higher numbers is there a specific brand you would recommend? Here is the cactus that made me think the succulents were getting too much light. Do you know why this is happening? It seems to be mostly on top. Thank you so much for your help!!
That looks like corking which I think is pretty normal for a barrel cactus as they age. Cacti make it for a strong structure to support new growth. It's like how we get callouses. Fluctuations in temperatures, watering and growth are all reasons why it happens. She is soooo cute! I love her fuzz balls π₯°
@SuperbRaspfern okay thank you! It just all showed up at once after the grow lights but Iβm glad to hear itβs ok π
I hope it gets better as it acclimates thank you π οΏΌ
Thanks for sharing the photos what kind of soil are you using? It looks quite heavy. Is it by any chance miracle grow?
I suspect looking at the soil that it is too heavy for your cactus and the cactus absorbed too much water which in turn damaged it . Since the corking happened so fast and it didn't grow rapidly.
Would you be able to amend your soil with something for aeration.
Anything could work, coarse sand, perlite, pumice, bark etc. I'll take a photo of what I have mine planted in for an example of how much chunkier and rocky it is.

Here are the grow lights. I would have to check on the succulents cactus soil I use I have 2 but ik they are not miracle grow I started with that soil and switched really quick. π₯²π
so I actually had them on a 12 hr timer and went down to 6 hrs within the last week. Not 8 thatβs my other grow lights lol
See how rocky mine is? I actually only water mine once every 2-3 weeks.
The left is one I mixed up at home years ago and my cactus do great in it.
The one on the right is the new one the Bonsai Jacks Bonsai and succulent soil. But looking closely at your soil I suspect that is what's causing it. It's likely staying wet for to long and then the soft spots are corking.

Sorry for the delay after the grow lights I needed to look them up and see what the nm was for your grow light to make sure it was NOT the issue. With the 6000K and 800nm you are safe the lights are not the cause. It won't cause burns at that intensity and that the highest yours go. In fact, I have mine under 6800K and also 800 nm and mine have never burned. And for photosynthesis to happen you have to be around the 800 nm range, so you made a good choice with the grow lights. ππ»
So, having eliminated the lights as the cause and a growth spurt I suspect the combo of heavier soil and watering to be the problem. I actually do wait about a week after I think mine are dry to water them. I would also recommend switching the pot to terracotta for your cacti to help. It's cheap and very effective and helping pull that moisture away from the roots.

@SuperbRaspfern οΏΌokay, Iβm glad I got good grow lights! I looked for a long time and wanted one that had a dimmable option, a timer, and white light. Being able to shut off half of the four at once is nice too and the price was right! After looking at the watering history, I think youβre definitely right. I watered it too much too close together in the last month or soβ¦. Iβll pay better attention to when it was last watered and make sure I wait longer in betweenβ¦ I will also look into that new soil thank you so so much for all the help! π
@PiousGermanivy just to throw a suggestion for good vitamins & minerals but also helps with plant shock after repotting, SuperThrive ! Itβs not a fertilizer but you can use one with it. Another product that helps colonize the roots & gives it a boost of defense against disease, Arber bio fungicide. Both these products have helped me to establish them & grow with no problems βΊοΈ
@Artistic_Stoner thank you! I need all the help I can get when it comes to succulents and cactus I will definitely check these out!!π
@PiousGermanivy Yes maβam my absolute pleasure! Keep us updated, weβre all here to help πβΊοΈ
