Cross pollination?

I was in my garden yesterday and I have a big walk thru trellis. On 1 side I have 1 cucumber plant. On the other side, opposite corner I put a watermelon. Everything started out fine. The lower watermelon is round and growing. But further up I noticed the watermelons growing look like cucumbers. So I guess I have cukeamelons?! So I guess even tho they are diagonally 7ft apart they still managed to cross…. Anyone have this happen? #gardening #watermelon #Cucumber #pollination #Hybrid
Cross pollination would normally affect the fruits of the child pant not the fruits of the parent plants. It would only affect the fruits if you planted the seeds.

But i dont think that cucumbers and watermelons are too far apart to be compatible and get hybrids from.

It is common for fruits/veg grown at home dont always look the same as the kind bought in the shops due to them having ideal growing conditions and pruning anything that doesnt look like it should.
@TheLonelyDaff so you are saying there is still a chance these will be watermelons πŸ‰ if so my kids will be so happy!!! Every year our watermelons never seem to grow for us. This year they are. The pumpkins (that always grow) are having a bad year instead.
@KDkat3 🀞 you definitely have one thats going to be good by the looks of it πŸ˜‰.
I have not grown any watermelons just based of the other ones I've groen
That’s cool
