Do I still water when dormant this winter?

#MaleFern I didn’t make the best choice when I brought this inside after summer. It has gone dormant and everything has fallen off. I did not put it in any direct sunlight. I’m hoping it will come back in the spring when I put it outside. Anyone else do this?
9ft to light, indirect
8” pot with drainage
Last watered 2 days ago
@GodsendToropapa Yes, a dormant male fern still needs some water, but significantly less than during its growing season; water sparingly (maybe once a month) only when the soil surface feels dry, ensuring it never dries out completely, as ferns need consistent moisture, even when dormant. Reduce watering frequency in fall and winter to prevent root rot, but avoid letting the roots dry out entirely, as this can damage them.
I haven’t done this but it seems like what you’re doing should be fine. No direct sunlight and infrequent watering but don’t let completely dry out.
Thank you both✨🀞
