Chinese evergreen cut stem turning grey
3 or 4 weeks ago my Chinese evergreen snapped below the leaves because it was too heavy (I guess). I placed the leaves in water and are doing fine.
I left the original stems in its pot with soil hoping they would grow new leaves. Recently I noticed the tips of the stems turning grey (like ash). Before that they were oozing a clear sap. Maybe the cuts didn't healed or dried right.
Is there anything I can do to help? Thanks

They look like they have some mold on them. Do you have hydrogen peroxide you can spray on the ends or perhaps a bit of rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle? Just a quick spray will be enough to kill the bacteria.
I would give it some more time becuase you might be surprised to see growth appear from the sides.
You can gently scrape off the outside of the stem to expose the flesh of the plant. If it's green, it's still growing. If it's brown, it's dead.

Yes, looks like some mold. I had the same issue with the leaves snapping off due to an accident so I put it in water. The stem on the other hand was starting to get yellow so I didn't wet it at all thinking it was over watered but then mold had grew on top so use peroxide and it turned back to green. Now, it started to show growth but I think it just cloned itself rather than throw a new stem for a leaf. But in time we'll see.
