3β pot without drainage

Last watered 1 year ago

Usually if its on a pot with no drainage (and we don't know it so we water like normal which happens to a lot of people including myself in 9 out of 10 times) then this will happen bc the plant is getting root rot from the soil staying saturated for so long. Remove the plant and wash the roots in room temp water then you be able to see the state of the roots. Remove any and all brown/mushy/flat/deflated like roots. Sometimes it helps to gently run your fingers through the roots (like hair) but have your fingers *lightly* pinching. The good roots are strong and wont break (except maybe a few thin hair roots but that's ok) anything dead and rotten will immediately come off. Then rinse what's left one more time with some peroxide and let it set out to dry a bit. The cover the roots with Cinnamon and you can repot into fresh dry soil with a pot that has drainage (pot should be 2-5 in bigger/ longer than the roots max) wait a day or 2 then give it a little water. Not a lot. For the first couple weeks it needs to be babied so smaller increments at the base so it goes straight to the roots and doesnt get a bunch of soil wet for no reason. It'll prob be in a little bit of shock so if it does take in water it wont be a lot. If You water like normal you could trigger the root rot back. Be patient even if it looks pitiful just give it time and don't give up! I've had some plants take a month or so to begin almost look like theres life left but once it does bounce back its better than ever
@BambooLover what do u do in these instances. I have several plants in the drainage liners and then have them in ceramic pots for decoration. Do I have to remove them every time I water them?
