#Monstera tips & tricks?
Ok, I was gifted my very first Monstera, it’s young and has no fenestrations (I think that’s the word) yet. @VerdantFlora gifted it to me and said I have to learn how to care for this one before I’m allowed my Albo, she’s not wrong of course lol so give me all your best tips and tricks on Monsteras 🫶🏼🪴and please wish me all the luck 🍀 🤞🏼! Ima need it! I have killed half of my leafy green plants 🤦🏻♀️. I’ve been very successful with cacti and succs though so I am hopeful. there’s even some fresh leaves! Whew!! I found it again! I had typed up an ENTIRE three paragraph post for you and then went looking for a video link that I like to share with new monstera parents, and poof! Greg had reset my app and logged me out. Took me forever to find your post again! So I’m gonna quickly recap what I’d said:
1) brightest indirect light you can give it.
2) drainage and adequate air circulation for the roots is SUPER important (they’re similar to orchids this way). Which means watch the watering! Always always always check the soil before watering! And pot in a light chunky soil—I use a mix of tropical potting soil with coco coir and other goodies like lava rock in it and then I add orchid bark and perlite.
3) Support pole of some kind for climbing. This is how you’ll get those monster leaves and beautiful fenestrations these guys are known and loved for.
4) I don’t recommend pruning unless absolutely necessary. Green = photosynthesis! Not to mention that pruning monsteras reverts them to a juvenile state.
5) Don’t panic if bottom leaves yellow and die off—it’s perfectly normal!

I keep my monsteras in bright, indirect light, water when the top few inches of soil dry out, keep them in a nice chunky aroid mix that drains really well and keep a humidifier next to them so they are nice and happy.

@13Stitches Aw, thanks, I try. When I can anyway. I also ADORE monsteras so I like to help people get themselves and their monstera set up for success, and there’s so much I’ve learned and things I did incorrectly in the beginning, you know? Plus, the thing about pruning them… Blew. My. Mind. My oldest are just now starting to get themselves in a “proper” groove so to speak. That’s Herman’s newest leaf. It’s HUGE. SOOO glad I found Lee and his no pruning video! LOL 😆
@HisLobster also! My moss poles come today so I will get mine properly planted and let this journey begin! 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 his roots are starting to come out the bottom of his pot so I’ll move him a step up.
