#Monstera tips & tricks?

Ok, I was gifted my very first Monstera, itโ€™s young and has no fenestrations (I think thatโ€™s the word) yet. @VerdantFlora gifted it to me and said I have to learn how to care for this one before Iโ€™m allowed my Albo, sheโ€™s not wrong of course lol so give me all your best tips and tricks on Monsteras ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿชดand please wish me all the luck ๐Ÿ€ ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿผ! Ima need it! I have killed half of my leafy green plants ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ. Iโ€™ve been very successful with cacti and succs though so I am hopeful. thereโ€™s even some fresh leaves! I know itโ€™s not my doing but theyโ€™re cute! ๐Ÿฅฐ #HappyPlants #HappyPlants #MonsteraMob #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #MonsteraMonday #Monstera

Whew!! I found it again! I had typed up an ENTIRE three paragraph post for you and then went looking for a video link that I like to share with new monstera parents, and poof! Greg had reset my app and logged me out. Took me forever to find your post again! So Iโ€™m gonna quickly recap what Iโ€™d said:
1) brightest indirect light you can give it.
2) drainage and adequate air circulation for the roots is SUPER important (theyโ€™re similar to orchids this way). Which means watch the watering! Always always always check the soil before watering! And pot in a light chunky soilโ€”I use a mix of tropical potting soil with coco coir and other goodies like lava rock in it and then I add orchid bark and perlite.
3) Support pole of some kind for climbing. This is how youโ€™ll get those monster leaves and beautiful fenestrations these guys are known and loved for.
4) I donโ€™t recommend pruning unless absolutely necessary. Green = photosynthesis! Not to mention that pruning monsteras reverts them to a juvenile state.
5) Donโ€™t panic if bottom leaves yellow and die offโ€”itโ€™s perfectly normal!

NOW, hereโ€™s that damned link:

Lee is super knowledgeable about monsteraโ€”I highly recommend you check out his other videos, too!

Congrats again, Kristine!!๐Ÿ˜˜

PS. LOVE its name! One of mine is Herman Monstera. ๐Ÿคช

I keep my monsteras in bright, indirect light, water when the top few inches of soil dry out, keep them in a nice chunky aroid mix that drains really well and keep a humidifier next to them so they are nice and happy.
Gorgeous monstera! My two were the same size when I first got them! Give them lots of bright indirect light, chunky airy soil, I recommend coconut chunks mixed in! Theyโ€™re super easy to take care of in the right conditions I wish you the best of luck! โ˜บ๏ธ๐Ÿ’•
@HisLobster omg I have had that happen! Only I did not take the time to go find it again and type it up again! So, THANK YOU! I appreciate all the advice and the link! You really went all out ๐Ÿค—
@13Stitches Aw, thanks, I try. When I can anyway. I also ADORE monsteras so I like to help people get themselves and their monstera set up for success, and thereโ€™s so much Iโ€™ve learned and things I did incorrectly in the beginning, you know? Plus, the thing about pruning themโ€ฆ Blew. My. Mind. My oldest are just now starting to get themselves in a โ€œproperโ€ groove so to speak. Thatโ€™s Hermanโ€™s newest leaf. Itโ€™s HUGE. SOOO glad I found Lee and his no pruning video! LOL ๐Ÿ˜†
@HisLobster whoa! That is huge!!! ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿคฉ gorgeous!
@HisLobster also! My moss poles come today so I will get mine properly planted and let this journey begin! ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿผ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿผ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿผ his roots are starting to come out the bottom of his pot so Iโ€™ll move him a step up.
@13Stitches Oh, SO exciting!! Yeah, if his roots are coming out from the bottom, he definitely needs himself a new place to get comfy-cozy in! I want to see pictures when youโ€™re done!!
