Should I trim the tall leading stems?
#PolkaDotPlant the top leaves keep dying off but the lower growth seems so be looking good. Should I just trim the top and let the bottom grow out? Thank you in advance guys!

@ArrakisTeraform I just cut all my polka dots back because they were getting leggy. I would definitely prune the top back a bit to encourage new fuller growth at the bottom. Here is one of mine a month after pruning! Medusa went nuts! Iβm getting ready to cut her back again! I also have a little one I cut back almost all the way to the stems last week and sheβs going good now too!
I am in CA too, itβs too dry here to be outside of a terrarium, sorry π’. I tried too mine did the same thing. I tried EVERYTHING. Finally I moved them, they bounced right back when I moved them to terrariums. They no longer drop leaves. You can do a makeshift terrarium by placing a ziplock bag, mason jar, transparent cup over the plant, that way you donβt even need to remove it from the pot, unless you want to. Anything you can find to lock in humidity. π
@Shells_Garden Iβm not quite sure how you keep yours so happy here in CA. I tried everything and could not succeed outside of a terrarium. Seeing is believing, yours are amazing! π€© Do you have a humidifier? What is your trick?
@SuperbRaspfern Hey Shannon, I have mine in an indoor greenhouse in my living room with grow lights. Itβs a pretty controlled atmosphere although I donβt have the temp control set up yet. I did have a few of them in the back atrium where the humidifier is getting indirect sun all day but it wasnβt doing well. I think it was too drafty so I made room and stuck them in the greenhouse. The second photo is one I just chopped last week. She was in the back room. Sheβs doing better but my chop and prop by cutting, dipping in root hormone and putting back in the soil was an epic fail as you can see from the dying leaves.
Gotcha that makes me feel 100% better. Since you have humidity trapped inside with all your plants together is makes sense that yours is doing well.
Amazing what an increase in humidity does for them. Mine props do great but I have them stuck right back in terrariums!
I love that you comment!π I also love that you got back to me. I just have one suggestion, I donβt mean this bad at all, so please donβt take it that way. But could you share your setup in your comments in future posts.
I feel like it helps people a lot to know the setup that keeps other peopleβs plants thriving so that they can also create the same environment for theirs if they choose too β€οΈ
I just always want people to be informed of what works and what doesnβt so they too can have plants that thrive. Otherwise people might try but think they just canβt and suck as plant parents. And then they will give up. π’Success is the key to keep building the plant loving community. β€οΈ
