Money plant struggling
Got a money plant a few months ago. Had it in direct sunlight at first and it kept dropping leaves. Moved apartments and now itβs further away from the window but gets decent light. It seemed to slow down dropping leaves but itβs still wilting. I switched it to a self watering pot to try to help, just in case that was the issue and itβs still struggling. What am I missing? This plant has been dying since the day I got it. No issues with any of my other plants.
8ft to light, indirect
12β pot with drainage
Last watered 2 days ago
Did you check the soil? I have one of these and itβs pretty happy, but I noticed when I took it out of the nursery pot it is bound with tape to keep the braided shape. I think you can remove that. π±
I also just looked at your soil while itβs out of the pot add some perlite I aim for 30- 60 % depending on the plant. I have around 40% in my money tree it will aid in drainage and aeration. These donβt like to be wet! So let it dry out between watering.
The reason I say this is because the leaves look like your plant may have root rot as well. The brown does not look crispy it looks mushy which is your first sign. If your tree has mushy or brown roots cuts those off and treat the remainder with 1 part peroxide mixed with 3 parts water. Also scrub out the pot and sterilize the soil. Since root rot is caused by bacteria, you will get it right back if you donβt treat ALL of it. Use new soil if you can, if not you can bake it in the oven to sterilize, but it stinks! Or flush the soil thoroughly with the peroxide mix ALL of the soil will need to be drenched with the peroxide water.π¦

Oops sorry, I forgot this since itβs been struggling since you got it. It likely came with root rot. Unfortunately this is common. Just be like the rubber band π’
Thank you for all of the responses. I changed it to this pot recently. New soil. Itβs a self watering planter so thatβs why the soil looks dry from the top. Yes the leaves are mushy brown. I didnβt think about root rot. They didnβt look too bad when I changed pots but maybe I didnβt look close enough. I did over water it one time early onβ¦ but it was already dropping leaves like crazyβ¦ maybe that one time gave it root rot
