Money plant struggling

Got a money plant a few months ago. Had it in direct sunlight at first and it kept dropping leaves. Moved apartments and now it’s further away from the window but gets decent light. It seemed to slow down dropping leaves but it’s still wilting. I switched it to a self watering pot to try to help, just in case that was the issue and it’s still struggling. What am I missing? This plant has been dying since the day I got it. No issues with any of my other plants.
8ft to light, indirect
12” pot with drainage
Last watered 2 days ago
Did you check the soil? I have one of these and it’s pretty happy, but I noticed when I took it out of the nursery pot it is bound with tape to keep the braided shape. I think you can remove that. 🌱
Agree, they usually have a rubber band hiding under the soil. Check thoroughly sometimes you have to wash the soil off to find it. Cut the band off and it will come back quickly. It strangles the stems and they are then unable to absorb the water and nutrients they need.
I also just looked at your soil while it’s out of the pot add some perlite I aim for 30- 60 % depending on the plant. I have around 40% in my money tree it will aid in drainage and aeration. These don’t like to be wet! So let it dry out between watering.

The reason I say this is because the leaves look like your plant may have root rot as well. The brown does not look crispy it looks mushy which is your first sign. If your tree has mushy or brown roots cuts those off and treat the remainder with 1 part peroxide mixed with 3 parts water. Also scrub out the pot and sterilize the soil. Since root rot is caused by bacteria, you will get it right back if you don’t treat ALL of it. Use new soil if you can, if not you can bake it in the oven to sterilize, but it stinks! Or flush the soil thoroughly with the peroxide mix ALL of the soil will need to be drenched with the peroxide water.πŸ’¦
Oops sorry, I forgot this since it’s been struggling since you got it. It likely came with root rot. Unfortunately this is common. Just be like the rubber band 😒
Thank you for all of the responses. I changed it to this pot recently. New soil. It’s a self watering planter so that’s why the soil looks dry from the top. Yes the leaves are mushy brown. I didn’t think about root rot. They didn’t look too bad when I changed pots but maybe I didn’t look close enough. I did over water it one time early on… but it was already dropping leaves like crazy… maybe that one time gave it root rot
