My Bear Paws leaves are dry

My ferns leaves look really dry, I’ve been watering ahead of schedule because the soil seems too dry. I’m struggling to get it light in a part of my house that’s not too cold or with warm air from a heating duct blowing on it all the time and causing more dryness . I have another different kind of fern sort of doing this too, but it seems to be hardier. Are ferns just too hard to grow in the Midwest in the winter because of the lack of humidity?

Looking at other people’s posts, it seems the ones that are thriving are getting 1-3 hours of direct light.
