My guess would be humidity. I think they prefer to be in a very humid environment. Mine only likes the shower.

I agree. crispy leaves often indicates lack of humidity.

Okay, I've been having a similar issue with crunchy leaves on a birds nest fern
I cant get a humidifier, but does the water tray help at all with humidity?
