I'm new to owning a rubber plant

I just got this plant about three months ago and it was beautiful. I have only watered it when the soil was dry up to about 2 inches from the surface and it started dropping leaves about a month ago and I've tried letting it dry out more and it's just getting worse. I changed where I put it taking it away from the window area to avoid it being in direct light and away from the cool draft but that hasn't made a difference either. I do have wood heat and I'm wondering if that's a possible issue. It's not always hot in my house but at night it gets up to 79-80ยฐ. What should I do?

@TrustyCatthyme is your rubber plant in a pot without drainage? If so I would suggest putting it in a pot with drainage holes and replant in new soil. I use a succulent soil mix on all my plants no matter what they are. Also If it's not within a couple of feet from a bright window with a lot of indirect light try moving it closer. They also love humidity and the wood heat could be drying out the air in your house. You might want to add a pebble tray or you can mist it with water or even a humidifier will work. I hope these suggestions help. Sometimes we have to try a variety of things to see what the problem could be since they can't talk to us. ๐Ÿ˜Š
