My cactus has a lot of white tips which I thought was new...

Try very gently to move them. If you can move them (the black ones) then it's only dirt, and nothing is wrong. If you can move the white ones, they could be mealybugs. You can compare with the photo in my comment below.
@Dragonfly15 ๐Ÿ˜ฌ I really hope Iโ€™m wrong in this, but to me, that looks like a mealybugs infestation. From a Google search it looks like mammilaria cacti are very prone to mealybugs which appear to be bits of cottony fluff but theyโ€™re actually waxy. Mealybugs are a type of scale insect. They pick a spot and suck the sap and juices out of your plant. Looks like it might be a pain in the butt to remove these from your cactus, but you can treat with swabs dipped in isopropyl alcohol, insecticidal or horticultural soaps, and/or neem. In the screenshots I shared, I disagree with the frequency of treatment, and would suggest treating at least every 6-7 days for several weeks because new one can hatch every 7-10 days. Good luck!
