again with my calathea
hi guys! my calathea’s been struggling for a while now but i had hopes because she’s been popping a new leaf. the thing is, it looks like it has dark edges as well so i’m worried about it… i don’t want it to turn out as the other leaves. what should i do?
10ft to light, direct
6” pot with drainage
Last watered 1 week ago
Hi Sarah.
Your plant card says this plant is near a heater. Has the heater been running at all?
Do you have a humidifier or pebble tray?
Are you watering with distilled water?
I am on my second Orbifolia. I totally understand the struggle.
@Kace hi there! it is not at the moment ☺️ it has a pebble tray that i’m always keeping humid. i don’t have a humidifier but i’m thinking it might be a good idea for her ahahah. also i am using filtered water ☺️
I have one that’s blasted with a humidifier everyday and it still gets crispy edges 😩 I’m convinced there’s no cure for them and they’re just rude plants 🌱 😂
@EagerPhlox ahahahahah im starting to think that might be true 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
I wish I could help, but Alocasia & Calathea are my nemesis! Sending good vibes your way! ✌️💚😊🪴
@ThePlantDadLife ahahah no worries, they can be so annoying 🤦‍♀️😂
@thefluffygarden adding a humidifier can’t hurt. I also found that letting her soil dry out completely is not good. She is not forgiving. Lol I have been watering mine more often, but with less water. So instead of 1/2 cup weekly, I’ll do 1/4 cup twice a week.
@Kace ok great idea! I did notice that mine doesn’t need water often. Her soil always seems moist and i water her like once every other week. I don’t know if it’s because of the pebble tray and i don’t know if it’s ok?
Just couple things:
Know that once the leaves are damaging they never become undamaged.
The new coming out like that could still just be from the plant adjusting. Mine is outside in 70% humidity & edges are still brown. My soul soil aguentardes damp too. Next thing is air flow. Is there some air movement around the plant?
Like I have other calathea in my bathroom that did ok but once I added a fan they are a lot better. 🪴
@Vinxy2 oh there’s not a lot so i could definitely add a fan to help!:)
