Help! My Frydek is doing poorly!
My Alocasia Frydek seemed really healthy and was growing new leaves for the first several weeks I had him, then all of sudden things started going downhill. I tried keeping him outside in the shade, but that hasn’t seemed to help. I’m thinking I should try moving hime to LECA. Would that be a good idea?
Thank you so much!!

I keep all my Alocasia’s in leca, they’re all thriving!
Maybe get a grow light for him so the spot doesn’t matter.
@Dolly Thank you so much! I’ll get him moved into leca tonight and get a grow light for him!
Check the leaves for spider mites! They look like little dots on the top or bottom of the leaf. Mostly the bottom. Mites love that plant
@jcPlantProper may be right
@jcPlantProper He definitely had spider mites recently, but I thought I got rid of them all. I will check him closely again. Thank you!!
@bluebladeliger mist and wipe those leaves every other day. Unfortunately they love to come back
@RJG I’m going to check him really closely for spider mites, but I think that could be from the cottonwood trees. My Alocasia has been outside and the cotton from the cottonwood trees has been getting all over everything lately.
@jcPlantProper I’ve been trying to do it once a week, but I’ve had problems with them coming back, so I’ll do it daily! Thank you!!
@bluebladeliger oh yah I get this. The Weims have very fine gray fur that gets caught on leaves all the time and it looks like webs πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
@RJG πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ haha, yeah it’s been so bad lately. There are tons of cottonwood trees around where I am, so all the outdoor plants have been covered in it. Thank you!!
@bluebladeliger I have the same problem here with the cottonwood tree. I have to pick it if my plants and watch the soil. Those are seeds flying around. I found the start of a plant in my money tree.
@ShannonMHR It really likes to stick to the plants. I had that problem about a week ago. There were a bunch of little green sprouts in my outdoor plants from seeds blowing in.
@bluebladeliger as I sit here watching them fly around like snow. We have so many in the neighborhood it's like a blizzard
@ShannonMHR Haha, that sounds like how it was here about a week ago! We have a ton in the area too!
