Those brown bits are dead. Some pearls look wrinkly which usually means it needs water. Some look ok though, so be sure to check the soil. I would clear out the brown bits and check its water.

Oh no. String of anything are a mealy bug magnets. I’d remove all the dead branches, do a thorough inspection for bugs and dunk it upside down in soapy water. Then water that soil thoroughly.  If you do find those white fluffy buggers, I’d actually recommend repotting.  Remove all the good branches and roots, let roots sit in a water and peroxide solution for a bit, soapy water for branches and repot in fresh soil. Good luck!
