Death By Cinnamon?
Ok, @RealSimpleMama please explain death by cinnamon to me. Do I just dump cinnamon on top of the soil of my trouble plants? I have plug in bug traps, I bought a Katchy, I am using sticky traps, I'm watering with hydrogen peroxide and the fungus gnats just keep coming. 😭😭

Cinnamon is a natural antifungal agent, so it will help kill the fungus the gnat feed on. I’m guessing you dump it in top and try to mix it in the top 2” of the soil.
You can also try mosquito dunks. That’s a bacteria you water in that helps kill larvae.
If it’s getting really bad, I’ve heard beneficial nematodes work really well on gnats.

You can put cinnamon through your soil before you put the plant up.
And you can put a layer on top of the soil, re apply when you don't see/smell it anymore.

I did cinnamon on top and maybe a tablespoon mixed in my soil when I make soil. I agree with @Nathaliezyx4 reapply when you don’t see or smell it.
And I also use mosquito bits, like @Alinaa said, with every water which is weekly or every two weeks depending on when watering is. And in addition to that I would bottom water. I had sticky traps in my more moist plants. And with all of that I got rid of them. Also clean out any drains in your kitchen and bathroom I think with boiling hot water.
It takes a little time to fully eradicate but it’ll happen. I also removed soil from my really infested plants.

@julesplants I use gallons of distilled water for my watering. Could I just dump the mosquito bits in there? Or are they only good when used within a certain time period? And are they effective when used for bottom Watering? Unfortunately, the majority of my plants are in pots with attached saucers, but I do have some that can be bottom watered.
You can just leave the the dunk or bits in the jug (can put it in pantyhose to keep it neater to separate if you want). I just leave a small part of a dunk in my watering can and another in my distilled bottle full time so it can soak in the water, then change it out every month or so.
I believe the bits and the dunks are a little different. I think the bits dissolve faster, where the dunks recommend to soak 24 hours.
I bottom and top water with it, it doesn’t hurt the plant, although gnats mostly lay towards the top so it probably works better applied where the larvae is.

@Bunny413 I think I have heard of others doing it that way. But me personally I only make what I’m going to use at that moment. They have been effective for me when bottom watering. I do also just pour some over the top when I water just to make sure its fully saturated but not every watering. But fungus gnats love moist soil and when that top two or three inches stays wet they will immediately go for it. That’s why bottom watering is sometimes recommended.
Hi! I’ve been teaching but I just checked my notifications - thank you for helping!
I use cinnamon in my soil mix for everyone, on the top of the soil to prevent fungus gnats, and can also use it on the root ball (especially if you suspect root rot). That’s what I mean by #deathbycinnamon and the best part is it doesn’t hurt your plants! 🌱☀️❤️

I have a lot of tropical plants & used to always have the fungus gnat issue! Cinnamon definitely works! Maybe not as quickly as Neem Oil, but if you sprinkle some over the top of the soil every so often it keeps them at bay :) I have not run into any trouble using ‘too much’ cinnamon just make sure to keep a close eye!
I got rid of fungus gnats in my isopod enclosures with springtails. I've also heard of using mosquito bits to ward them off. Also, don't forget that chance are, even if you stop seeing them for a few days, chances are there are eggs that will hatch soon after. I mix in Charcoal bits with my soil, and any high humidity plants tend to get springtail water every month or so. Or whenever I stop seeing them spring around. They actually eat mold, not plants, so they're handy to have around. They're also super easy and cheap to culture.
